My colonoscopy is today. I'm mostly looking forward to eating later this afternoon.
H brought home a puking DS last night from up north. He slept on the floor in our room and didn't puke anymore so that's good. But I guess he is missing school today and there is only 4 days left.
Oh yeah, I cannot believe Kindergarten is almost over and I will soon have a 1st grader! Where oh where has the time gone? 😪

It's supposed to be over 90 degrees here today, which is the first truly HOT day we've had this year. I think we'll try to get outside in the morning before it heats up too much and lay low indoors the rest of the day. I'm SOOOO happy we AC and our new house does, too. It is surprising how many people don't have it in the NW.
scorpioscuba - That is so early for school to be done already! I think I remember being surprised when his school year started as well. Schools up here always go into mid-June. Also, enjoy your food! Do you have something special in mind to break your fast?
NellieOleson my friend's daughter (actually from my first BMB lol) finished school on Friday. It's so weird how much of a variance there is in when school years go in different regions. S isn't done until the last Friday in June. He started September 1.
We have no plans for the day. Everything is closed because of the long weekend. S will probably take off outside with his friends later. I'm going to apply online some more while M naps. I might have to run out to my mom's for a minute to drop off my sewing machine, but I really hope I don't, because the kids will flip if we go out there and don't stay

Nellie, hopefully a burger! 😊
kelltothekell, could it be teething? DD is picky about what she will eat and I can usually attribute it to her teething phases. She's in one again now.

Oh teeth. We are due for a few more. She has 8. She managed to face plant and cut her upper lip in 4 places yesterday. I'll let you imagine the fallout from that experience. Apparently it takes my big kids an hour to "go play!!" But they finally managed to go entertain themselves. An hour. Do I really need to plan on it taking that long? Bc now we were going to head out, but they need this practice just playing in their own so we are staying home.

What is the long weekend for?
Officially it's Victoria day. Queen Victorias birthday was may 24. In reality it's more like the "offical" start of summer. A lot of people go camping, open up their cabins/boats for the summer, and get plastered for an extra day. We usually don't do anything because H likes to either bank the stat or get the overtime for it.

crimsonandclover - we have some friends who have always had that bedtime schedule for their ds (now 4). The mom puts the kids to bed when she is ready to go to bed. I cannot imagine. I'm like you - need a little time to decompress and have some quiet.
Speaking of bedtimes Dd1 is taking so long to go to sleep lately. Her bedtime is 8, and she would usually fall asleep in about 10 minutes. This past week it's been 45 min+ of rolling around, singing, flailing, adjusting toys and blankets. I feel like I need to push her bedtime later if it keeps taking so long, but I don't have the energy to keep her up any later than she already is.
It's also extra fun since dd2 reliably wakes up at 5:30 most mornings. Parenting nonstop from 5:30 am to 9 pm is killing me. So damn tired.
NellieOleson, I vote against pushing her bedtime back. My DDs have gone through phases of taking longer to fall asleep. They have always gotten back to falling asleep relatively quickly.
I think a big part of it is that it's staying light so much later. I vaguely remember the same thing happening last summer. I hope she adjusts soon.
I like things to be predictable. I hate it when one of them is going through some weird phase that gives me bedtime anxiety.

NellieOleson +1 to needing downtime at night. Dd1s bff our neighbor) stays up until 830-930 frequently and I CANNOT get on board. It's so hard when she spit playing ten ft from dd1 window at 730/8 when my kids are in bed. I feel bad, damn, no. This happens at naptime to bc their kids don't nap (or nap super late in the day).

Guys it's my last Monday night teaching swimming. I'm doing some random days over the summer, but I am soooooooo glad to be done. Routine has been good, but I'm over it at the moment. I'm starting to think about chore charts for my bigs for the summer. Anyone have great inspiration?
Post by scorpioscuba on May 22, 2017 15:10:46 GMT -5
+ 1,000 to early bedtimes. DD is typically asleep by 7 and DS by 7:30 -8. DS has to wake up on school days no later than 6:30am to eat, get ready, etc and as soon as he starts sleeping less than 10-11 hours a night he starts having night terrors. But mostly I enjoy my quiet time to get things done and just chill with no demands from little people.
NellieOleson do you have good room darkening shades in dd1s room to help block out the light? I wouldn't push bedtime back either and just tough this phase out.
Congrats on your last Monday teaching swimming dizzycooks! It will be nice to have a freed up schedule for summer.

There are blackout shades on her windows. They work pretty well other than a minimal amount of light that seeps through at the sides. I think it's more the brightness before bedtime and not getting that "it's getting late" feeling that makes it harder for her to sleep. It's like it takes her longer to wind down once she's actually in bed.
I know I can be the same way in the summer. I remember before we had kids my H and I would be hanging out, look at the time and realize it was 9:30 and we hadn't even thought of dinner yet. Oh, those were the days.
crimsonandcloverNellieOleson S used to stay up that late. We adjusted his bedtime as needed based on his level of grouchiness. Now he's at 7:30-8 and I assume ad he gets older we'll start moving it back again.
dizzycooks I think I'm going to have a list of things that S needs to do before he's allowed to go outside or play video games. I've seen a few examples on pinterest. Things like clean one room, read a book, do something helpful, etc.
We ended up going to my mom's to drop off my sewing machine. We stayed for a bit. She fed us, S got whiney about wanting to come home and play with his friends, I realized that a lot of stuff is missing from my sewing machine case. So now I have to hunt stuff down in my basement.

Am I the only one who doesn't give any hoots about stuff anymore? I sat through a meeting where we were lectured about cleaning up after ourselves and told to provide good customer service. Seriously? Be an adult. Do your job. I have a fake vegetable delivery at my house and one guy keeps taking his box. Claims he was never told to leave it and transfer his food. Whatever dude. Leave your box tomorrow ok? I feel like I'm being rude, but why can't people just follow directions? I bounce between calling people out and saying who cares? I do not have time or energy for peoples crap.

Does anyone give their LO's an iron supplement? DD's blood test came back with super low iron so I bought the Poli Vi Sol the pediatrician recommended. I've tried it in OJ but she refuses it. That shit is strong. I may try halving the dose in OJ next. Or I think kelltothekell, you put it in DD's smoothie? I want to try that too. Which supplement do you use?
I'm also trying to be super conscious of making sure she is getting iron rich foods. But if she doesn't want to eat something, there isn't much I can do.
Post by scorpioscuba on May 22, 2017 21:53:44 GMT -5
No, dizzycooks, you're not. There appears to be an epidemic of people who think they can do whatever the hell they want without any regard for others around them. I am tired of it too. H and I have this conversation frequently. And he is not as nice as I am and does not hesitate to call people out on their crap.
Lollipop how is the job hunt? I'm worried about you. Job hunting is hard and I know you needed the job?
The job hunt is DOA. I'm going to try a few more places this week. I don't know. I'm ok for now. Barely. I get enough monthly for my car payment and some gas. I just really need to find something soon. Until I do we can't afford a whole lot of "extras".
scorpioscuba my Dr has recommended iron supplement sprinkles. Apparently they're grape flavoured. I've never used them because S has never tested low, he just hates meat in general, so I assume he doesn't get as much iron as he should.
Post by dizzycooks on May 22, 2017 22:08:00 GMT -5
Spinach, raisins, peas and red meat are all high in iron. Could you make smoothies for her that are heavy on spinach and peas? Add some fruit for flavor? Serve with iron fortified cereal? Bread things in cereal dust?

scorpioscubakelltothekell - this is the iron supplement our pediatrician recommended. It's great and tastes much better than the poly-vi-sol. Doesn't get all brown and gross looking either. The dds get it in apple juice every morning.

dizzycooks my daily mantra is just adult and do your fucking job. I am actually having someone come in and audit our practices/employees, because I need to know whether I just need to fire people and start over, or if there is hope or if I am unreasonable. scorpioscuba we have a hard time with the poli vi sol. It's gross so I don't really blame her. Definitely interested in any suggestions. Lollipop I hope you find some more work. Don't give up! Also I always feel like when there aren't jobs available that's the time to make a job for yourself. Like dog walker, leaf blower, garden weeder, grocery delivery etc. etc. Those are things that you could probably pick up some work for quick and could tailor to your schedule.
