Sorry I've been MIA... I'm just trying to figure this thing out. Baby will be a week tomorrow and it's definitely an adjustment. He had a good appointment with low risk jaundice levels and his screen came back normal. I think the biggest thing right now is trying to get on a sleeping schedule to make sure he doesn't think night is day- but I understand it takes time.
I've given up on breastfeeding entirely. LO nurses way too slow, once I change sides, he'd be in milk coma and wouldn't wake up til I strip off his clothes. Even after nursing for 40mins, he'd rise after a 30mins nap and demand his milk again. I'm tired of this routine and switched to expressed milk and supplementing with formula now. He seems more satiated with the new regime. I miss our cuddle time, but bottle feeding is a better way to grow him. He's gained half a pound since I switched a week ago.
Ignore those judgy folks. I pretty much went thru the same thing you did the first week; we were both suffering - me with my sore and bloody nipples and LO with hunger. I know from books and the lactation consultants that babies allegedly don't need much the first few days, but toward the end of week he did need some milk and I wasn't able to provide. He slept like an angel when I finally caved and fed him formula, no more crying every half hour in search for a nipple. Do what's right for you and your baby. Screw what other people say or think, it's your business.
