So I had to go to the ER last night. Had a fever of 104.4. :/ Waited for two hours before they finally got me back to a room where they did a flu swab, drew blood for tests and cultures. Flu swab came back negative so they started me on IV fluid and IV antibiotics for mastitis. Doc said he'd never seen a fever that high because of mastitis. After an hour and a half the antibiotics were done. Doc wanted keep me over night for more antibiotics, but I couldn't stand being away from Korbin any longer. I felt better once we got home, but now I'm feeling absolutely awful again. I just want to feel better so I can take care of my baby
Just to rant a bit. I don't want to go back to the hospital, but I'm beginning to think its inevitable. I just want me baby with me but I wont dare expose Korbin to the hospital. Any tips?
I had mastitis constantly while nursing my first. I am so sorry. I know how awful you feel. Were you given a course of antibiotics to take home? I was always given a 10 day course, but I didn't have any via IV at the hospital. I found hand expressing in a warm shower helped. And tylenol/advil for pain relief. Again, so sorry you are going though it. You should start to feel better in a couple days after your antibiotics. Hang in there.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you start feeling better. Nothing's worse than feeling shitty and not being able to take care of your LO. I had to spend the night in the hospital when M was 2 weeks old and it was hard.

Yeah, they gave me two different antibiotics to take for 10 days. My mastitis was just so bad that the doctor wanted to give me the hard core antibiotics via IV to get a good start on knocking it out. He wanted to do more IV antibiotics over night, but said I was young and healthy enough that he was comfortable with me going home. But if my fever spikes to 101.5 I'm to march my happy butt to the ER again for more IVs I hope it doesn't come down to that. My LO was so fussy last night because I'd been at the hospital most of the day.

I hope you kick this asap. Big hugs!!
I was also thinking after I posted to check that your nursing bra isn't pressing too hard in one area of your chest. That was a problem for me, finding a proper fitting bra and I believe it added to getting clogged ducts. I would take a 30 min nap and wake up with mastitis.

Ugh. I definitely have mastitis right now. Thanks for your post on what you did to reduce the symptoms. I am praying that I do not have to come into the office.

Mastitis is an infection and needs antibiotics. So if you think you have it please call your doctor.
I would definitely go for the antibiotics mommadozer! I waited because I'm stubborn and thought I could take care of it myself and ended up in the ER for 5 hours. The tips to reduce the symptoms definitely help with discomfort, but just get the drugs! All I did was call my OB and explain my symptoms and she sent in a couple of prescriptions for me.

I think I was jumping ahead on mastitis. It turned out to be just a clogged duct and exhaustion at most. It's not near as painful and I didn't end up having a fever ( just felt like it). Also, I am thinking it was just extreme discomfort in an underwire bra. I just bought them a couple days ago and not wearing one in the last 24 hours has made a huge difference.
