It snowed yesterday and V was out in the snow three times. The last time he snuck out the backdoor without his snowgear, right before bed, then he got upset that his feet got wet, lol.
Today I'm working from home. I was supposed to go up for a project but I need never got confirmation and so just am catching up on some other things instead.
My dad died this morning of organ failure. He got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and fell. My mom called 911 and the fire dept came out and helped him get up and back to bed because he didn't want to go to the hospital. My mom did some work in her office and went to check on him before she went back to bed and found him not breathing. Paramedics came and did CPR, but no luck. And then she had to deal with the Medical Examiner and getting a doctor to sign off on the death certificate. He was supposed to see the kidney specialist tomorrow and get his liver biopsy results today.
Now we're trying to figure out the memorial and what to do with his house and the land my grandparents had left him. The house needs to be condemned, but I don't know how to just turn it over to the city (the irony is he's been fighting the city for 2 years over the property line). He owes taxes and it's all in bad shape so I don't know if we can donate it without having to take care of the taxes. I'm trying to see if we can donate the land to a state museum (it too has taxes owed, but probably easier for them as there's nothing on the land).
I don't know what to tell DS. He didn't have a lot of interaction with my dad (just 1 visit and some phone calls). I don't know that it would mean anything other than that I've been talking up seeing Oma and Opa for Christmas and now Opa isn't going to be there.
Oh seamonster I am sorry. Losing a parent is devastating. I wish for peace for you and your family and for some clear guidance on dealing with his estate as smoothly as possible.
seamonster I'm so sorry for your loss. I know you were frustrated by your family keeping you in the dark about his condition. I'm glad you knew and weren't completely blindsided although I'm sure it still came as a shock. Hugs to you and your family.
Today we went to Bass Pro to see the big guy! When our turn came up A was too nervous to go by him, clinging to me and almost crying. So as I was going to guide her passed him, he offered her a candy cane and it worked like a charm. Even the camera lady was impressed lol. I don't understand how she was so comfortable in disney with all the characters but Santa frightened her.... Oh well.

Yeah they brought Santa into the daycare today for pics. LO was terrified and apparently so scared she was shaking. This did not surprise me. People in costumes freak her out. She flips her shit at chuckie cheese
Thanks, everyone. The gastro Dr that was running point on everything (he didn't have a PCP and the clinic he was going to was disorganized) called my mom this morning with the results from the liver biopsy they'd done after a scan showed spots on his liver and spine. He had liver cancer that had metastasized from elsewhere, so had been sick for a long time. The Dr said that it was better that he went his way because the type of cancer is really painful and terminal.
I'm glad he didn't suffer too much and he was able to get pain meds. He never wanted to be in a nursing home and we probably would have had to send him to hospice otherwise.
I went to work to get my computer charger and work out clothes, but spent the day with my family and took DS to the aquarium this afternoon. I may go to work this week just to distract myself and then take bereavement leave when we do the memorial service. H is coming home from his trip early -- he got what he needed done and would otherwise just be doing busy work of audits and training.

Because Santa knows your name, knows if you have been naughty or nice, and sneaks into your house once a year. Santa is a creepy dude! Princesses and other characters are as portrayed in movies so often innocent in a way.
