Hola another frigid day here. I have a leaking shower head in my master bath and because I have no door between the bedroom and bath it is extra obnoxious. I actually ties a queen sized sheet to the shower head to stop the dripping noise. I did all this research and figured out how to fix it. Then I went to turn off the water to the house and it seems our valve doesn't work so now I have to get a blasted plumber out here to do it. So that is my day. That and apparently C is just into crying for no reason ? Weee
S is soooooooo into wild Kratts and it's awesome. She always asks for the show with two guys and two girls and a guy. Lol.
aggiebug oh no! and ughh to kids crying for no reason. it wears me down!
sorry for the post and run yesterday. my computer freaked out and i was scrambling to get a few things done for work. thanks for the gift ideas!
my office is closed again today. it's nice staying in my PJs to work, but it's so hard to get anything done. i have the au pair working, but A can't help herself and runs into the office every few minutes to check in with me. haha. on the plus side, i'll only have to pump two days this week.
both kids are sick and slept SO badly. A was up coughing and crying 6 times, and slept until 10:15 this morning. C has a runny nose and was up from 1:20-3:40, and was restless and crying on and off the rest of the night. H is sick too. if i manage to avoid it it'll be a miracle!
lilyelayne I'm so glad!!! Congrats and I had a feeling it was another boy. That's the way it usually seems to go haha. I hope you went a celebrated with a nice lunch or something fun! I wonder why you had a positive test....?!?
aggiebug sorry for the shower troubles, that's annoying! My kids love the Kratt brothers too! I used to watch them growing up so I lurv to see them too 😉
agm04 I hope your kids feel better and that you get a more restful night!
I don't know if it's the age or if A is getting sick but she's been super sensitive the last couple days. I don't want to give in and let her have bad behaviour but it's also a balancing act so she doesn't have crying fits. My H is not good at trying to calmly talk her down and she's usually in tears when he's around. He has no patience and that was actually a big reason we're sticking with two children. I miss my well behaved Anna! I hope she comes back someday haha!
It's super cold today so after the usual totschool and shopping we are staying in. It's good because I'm getting house things done but I miss the zoo and going on walks and playing outside. And I feel I've been relying on movies too much to fill in time throughout the day/week. Even my dog has been annoying. The whole day he stands watch at the front window and barks with any movement. Good thing we live on a court and it's pretty quiet but still. We are not going to die bc our neighbor pulls into his garage! Gah! #cabinfeversucks
dreemkin little kid emotions are so hard sometimes. I hope she finds her zen soon.
S is soooooooo emotional. I know it's normal and I feel like most of the time I am good with it but she gets crazy sometimes like kicking screaming and screaming and SCREAMING and I legit cannot talk to her. I have to take her to her room and force her to stay in there (with her bunny, her comfort item) until she calms down. I have heard 4 can be worse and 5 can be an age of huge hormonal shifts. Yikes a bee.
I forgot to mention that our friends told us that they are having a baby! They have struggled with failed infertility procedures for years so I'm very excited for them. It is my husband's friend so I have very little details 😂 but he told him by saying that he needed a new car. One big enough for a carseat! I am so happy for them! Unfortunately we don't get to see them much bc they live in Seattle. But I hope that we (three couples and us that live all spread out now) can get better about getting together, especially when we all have (or are having) kids!
aggiebug thanks for the solidarity! I'm pretty sure it's the age. Especially because A is now on the same stubborn potty training path that N went through. However, I don't remember N going through such mood swings but maybe I have amnesia or mentally blocked it out haha. N is very even keel though and she's 5. She's always been pretty mellow and easy going. I guess there's hope for 'this one' (A's often nn). I hear a lot of people incorrectly saying that girls are more emotional and hormonal and I hate that bc I know it's not just "a girl thing". Kind of like how people explain away bad behavior due to "boys being boys". NOT aiming this at aggiebug but let's just say it's a toddler thing and all be in this together, right!?
A new thing A is doing too is saying "I caaaan't" to easy things she's been doing for a while like brushing her teeth.
Oh dreemkin I was not saying it was a girl thing. I have heard that kids have a big hormonal shift around 5 no matter their sex. Heck I think little boys are often more dramatic than girls but it's soooooooo kid dependant. I would say that as a generalization but not about a specific kid if that makes sense.

I know you weren't! I just went off on a tangent there! Sorry 😶 I stepped down from my soapbox. Definitely kid dependant. I hope mine are not that "shifty" in the long run bwahaha

Ha ok. With the way your post was worded I wasn't sure if you misinterpreted what I was trying to say . That kind of stuff irks me too. S is full of sass just like I was, I am almost afraid of what teen years will be like haha. I was a super straight shooter but quite dramatic . Ahh teens I'll take my threenager I think.
lilyelayne glad to hear the good news and congratulations!
Today was full of V attempting to burst my ear drums screeching at A so A will laugh (not sure where he got that idea). I lost it this afternoon and yelled at him to stop yelling, to which he responded ya, and you too mom. Point, V, lol.

aggiebug sorry you can’t diy the shower problem agm04 hope your girls feel better soon! dreemkin G has been difficult lately; I think it’s a combination of not enough outside time, stressful emotional environment at home (marital issues, worry about the baby, stress of buying the house), and a growth spurt. He acts out more for DH because DH loses his cool quickly & gives the emotional reaction, so they both feed off each other’s drama. That is so frustrating to me. kartish I heard DH tell G this morning “don’t yell. We don’t yell at you” lol yeah right, DH yells more than me and I’m not perfect.

dreemkin very tl;dr but here’s more info on my test results and possible causes
High AFP (alpha fetal protein) level - which is why I was referred to MFM - is correlated with a few things. AFP is made in baby’s liver and neural tubes. So the big worries are baby’s abdomen (like its belly isn’t closed and its inner organs are hanging out into the amniotic sac) and baby’s spine & brain (being so malformed they are leaking AFP into the amniotic sac).
But baby’s belly is closed, stomach looks good which means baby is on track practicing swallowing, baby’s spine and brain look great.
Baby could still have occult Spina Bifida undetectable by ultrasound, but that level of Spina Bifida doesn’t typically interfere with quality of life. But still could be the cause of the high AFP.
Another cause of high AFP is poor placental connection in early pregnancy causing bleeding. I had no noticeable bleeding but doc said there could have been some occult bleeding within the amniotic sac.
Last thing correlated with high AFP is poor growth in the third trimester. Sounds like they don’t know cause/effect just that they’re realizing this test result correlated with poor growth. Baby is a great size right now but just to be safe we are going back to the specialist in 10 weeks for another ultrasound.
So- they don’t really know all the causes of high AFP or all the things that could result from it. But the major terrible things aren’t going on with my baby.
lilyelayne interesting info. Being a (ex? previous? on hiatus?) lab tech I find it interesting. I hope it was just an error of some sort and everything continues to look good! Now on to baby names!! This will be particularly interesting to me bc my nephew is named G! And if they can ever have another it will he neat to see what someone else thinks goes well with the name.
