I know this is probably a bit early to be thinking about DDs 1st birthday, but I like to be prepared. I'm very torn about how large of a party I want to have for DD. I know DH wants to have a large party, and I can understand to some degree. He has a large extended family that he is fairly close to and a lot of friends who he considers 'brothers', most of whom are married and have kids. I don't have nearly as many friends nor am I close to any of my family outside of my nuclear family. I'm pretty introverted, and for myself I wouldn't want a ton of people at a party for me. However DD is a different person and already very social with others.
I know that there are a lot of people who would love to celebrate her first birthday with her, and I would feel bad excluding them, but I also don't want to over extend myself. I'm torn between having a large party with all of our family and friends invited, and having just a small gathering of grandparents, aunts & uncles. If we invite everyone (and this list includes literally everyone that would be in consideration for a big party - I may decide to cut down if we go this route, but I need to start somewhere) we would be inviting somewhere around 60 people. If we do a small, intimate party of just immediate family, it would be 11 (plus the 3 of us).
So, my questions to all of you are: For those of you who have kids over a year old, did you have a large or a small party for their first birthday (or none at all)? What are pros/cons to having said party? Other thoughts?
