I am throwing sil's baby shower. I want it to be perfect. I love her lots and she doesn't have a sister to welcome her to motherhood. So far I plan on having the thank you's already addressed for her and a "wishes for baby" book made.
The wishes for baby was my favorite part of my shower. H's aunts made a book that is cut like a train and put the cards inside. Everyone's answers are so loving. I love reading them and hope he does when he is older.
Instead of games I think we will make bows and headbands. Thoughts on that? The only "game" will be guessing how many diapers are on the diaper cake.
What was the best part of your shower? What did you hate?
My sister had a friend that was just starting a photography business to come and take pictures. It was so nice to have those memories. If you can find someone just starting out or photography student it could be a nice little addition to the party. I also loved the theme my sister picked. Twinkle twinkle little star. Loved it. The best!

Honestly there wasn't anything I hated about my shower. And I loved the games (guessing baby food, a memory game where we had 30 seconds to look at a basket and write down everything we remembered) but I know most people don't like them. There really wasn't a theme to it though, and I think that would have been awesome! How sweet of you to throw an amazing shower for her!

Food & cake my work shower did the bows & headbands thing and I loved it. It was so cute and personal. One of my showers (messy divorces on both sides so we had to split showers) did the book theme which I loved (I have been a guest at these showers as well & am no t offended by them though I know they aren't proper etiquette). The hostess had a bunch of books for decoration and had made labels for the books that "This book is for the library of (name) with love (guests inserted names)".
This might not help but I had two showers and my favorite was the couple's shower. It gave us more options for games and the guys were hilarious. I also loved the food and the dessert table. Must have good dessert. And I agree with PP to have someone take photos.

My friend's threw a surprise book theme one too and as a new mom I LOVED it. I had no clue about children's books and I ended up with so many new favorites. I don't give a poo if it is not proper etiquette. We basically had coctail hour for those who could, and NA stuff for a few of us who couldn't.
We also did the book thing and I really loved it--I think it's a popular enough idea now that people aren't thrown off by the "asking for an extra present" thing.
I liked the games--we did one where my friends interviewed my mom and MH's mom about us as babies beforehand, and then people had to guess if the facts were about me or MH. We also did one where we played 10-15 seconds of a song that was somehow baby related (like had the title baby in it) and you had to write down all the song names & artists.
Instead of cake (I'm not a big cake person) there was a sundae bar and that was also awesome.
What I hated was sitting in front of everyone to open gifts!
I had crafts instead of games at mine and I LOVED it!! We did headbands, and bibs (used fabric markers to design them and also had cute stencils for the not so crafty people), a tie blanket that people could put together, and also a thumbprint painting. I loved it and people seemed to enjoy getting up and mingling!
My favorite thing was that there weren't any games involved. So I love the idea of crafts. I was at one last year and they had several games and silly ones.

Oh another thing, my mom had guests write "advice" (& she gave my other shower hostess paper so they could have those guests write advice) to me or words of encouragement. She put together a scrapbook with those & photos of my different showers. It's such a nice momento.
My mom and sister put our "games" on a table so you could come up and participate if you wanted. They were baby food guessing, a baby pool, and Guess the celebrity baby/parents (celebrity baby pictures and a sheet with parents. My baby picture was included!"

FOOD! I had a Desserts shower so I got to stuff my face with cake and tarts and cheesecake bites for three hours. Also, gift bingo, so people weren't so restless during the gift opening.

Build your own taco bar. Cake. Ours was co-ed so we didn't really do any games. Mostly food and hanging out with friends and their kids (we were among the last in your social circles to become pregnant).
She got a book for everyone to sign as the guest book. Everyone wrote that they were excited to meet Henry and things like that. It was a curious George book and our theme was monkeys because his room was decorated in monkeys. I love reading through the comments and Henry loves to read the book.
I think hair bands instead of games is a great idea.

The end was my favorite part because I am NOT good being the center of attention like that!! However with Cooper, my best friend did a wishes for baby and I love reading those. I have them in her baby book.

Tbh, the cake! My sisters got a giant chocolate cake from Costco and sent me home with the leftovers. I'm sure everything was great but that's all I remember :-)

My favorite game that my hosts did was decorating diapers and burp cloths. The guests "decorated" diapers for us with markers with really funny prices of advice, pictures, etc and did the same with burp cloths. At a family members shower they did a game where you have to match celebrity babies with their parents and that was actually a lot of fun and gave people something to do during down time because it was posted on a wall and people could do it whenever.
We did only a couple of games and the one I liked was blindfolded diapering of a baby doll. It was funny to see my friend and I were vs my sister and cousin who had two in diapers at the time. My grandma played too which was great. I think games definitely depend on the crowd!
My favorite shower activity was actually for a shower that I threw for one of my best friends: I bought really cute card stock with little birds on it and covered the backing of a picture frame (about 14x20ish but the size just depends on the number of guests) and used pinking shears to cut out little bubbles from card stock in solid colors to match the colors of the birds. Everyone at the shower wrote a little love note to the baby on the bubbles and as she was opening her gifts, I was in the back gluing then on the picture and then that was the last gift she opened. It turned out really beautiful and she loved it!
I think you have something really nice in the works! I want to go and I don't even like showers!
The crafty part is great, I don't think everyone is into games and there's no coercion to do crafts.
The best part of my shower was just being there. I know its hokey, but I was floored by how many people made a long drive to be there. I love seeing everyone. Having people there was the most important and memorable part of the day. Beyond that, someone made my cake and it was totally fun and creative! Just the fact that someone took all that time and materials to make something for ME was awesome (and tasty!)
