I am in Target and overwhelmed by the choices, please help me.
JA is having extremely dry skin. We already use Aveeno products on him but it isn't helping. We haven't bathed him in 3 days (just wiped him down) trying to help but his poor skin still feels like sandpaper.
I want to try something new but have no idea and have been standing on this baby wash/lotion aisle for 20 minutes unable to make a decision.
Anyone have a suggestion??? My brain is a jumbled mess of labels and ingredients.

Is it eczema or just the dry skin? We use aveeno's eczema lotion for Em, sometimes hydrocortisone if she gets a bad patch. Also, Eucerin is a good one for dry skin. All of the bath products we use have to be hypoallergenic and scent free, with added moisturizers when possible or her skin gets really super dry.
Eta: we use the eczema lotion even when her eczema isn't bad because it's super moisturizing.
We like The Honest Co. lotion which Target now carries. It is not very thick (goes on light, not greasy) but we use it daily and their skin does great. If he has any particularly rough spots, the Healing Balm would be great too. Have you tried coconut oil as well?
Aquaphor works really well--it's greasy but does the job. We put it on at night and then put jammies on so it's "sealed in" for the night.
We also use a homemade coconut oil/beeswax/shea butter mixture that I make, and that works well too. So maybe something natural with coconut oil or shea butter?
I'd look into the more organic options--Honest Company, Burt's Bees, California Baby.

You've probably left Target by now, but I've been using my regular Vaseline lotion on A. Not from the baby aisle. It seems to work a lot better and last longer.
Thanks, y'all! I bought the Aveeno oatmeal bath kit to do tonight. I also bought the Aveebo creamy oatmeal baby wash. We have just used the regular Aveeno wash with the Aveeno eczema lotion. If this doesn't help after several days, I will try the other brands you all listed.
He has not be diagnosed with a skin disorder (eczema) officially. I am thinking of making him a derm appt anyway. I had a friend that said her LO's dry skin was actually from an allergy. So I want to make sure I know what is causing it. It has been like this on and off for a while, even before the constant heat being on in the house. I do think the heat running is making it worse right now though, even with our humidifier running.

mrsrek10, NOO!!!! Return that shit, okay!? Tyler's derm said Aveeno products are not good for their skin, typically. I would immediately buy cetaphil body wash and Cerave or Cetaphil cream. Those are the best! For an oatmeal bath, jjust put regular old oats in the food processor until they become a powder and use that as an oatmeal bath. I wish I would have seen this sooner, I am sorry! We have been dealing with this foreverrr and just got a great derm.
If you do go to the derm, I suggest asking about Ellidel and Epi Cerum as prescriptions. They're both non-steroidal and amazing products! They have been lifesavers.
ETA: We have also had Tyler allergy tested. If you go to a derm, chances are they will refer you to have him tested to make sure that isn't what's causing the inflammation.

I just saw some organic suggestions as well. I buy Raw Apothecary brand shea butter, whip it up myself, and use that on him 2x a week. Coconut oil and aquaphor /vaseline make his skin more dry, so I don't know if it would do the same to JA. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, looks like I may have to go back shopping. I just want his skin to get better! Damn kids should come with user manuals for their specific quirks and needs!
I know this is a bit late, but Kayleigh also has super dry skin. We stay out of the baby aisle for creams since none of those do the trick. We've been using the Eucerine Original Cream in the big tub. Its super thick and rich, but it does the trick.

I was told to make sure I was purchasing a cream rather than a lotion. Aquaphor is great; really thick (kind of like paste) so it can be hard to apply (definitely warm in hands to make it rubbable).
