Out of curiosity, when did you start giving your child a vitamin? J is almost 16 months and our pediatrician has never mentioned it. Now I'm wondering if I should bring it up at his 18 month appointment.

I was just wondering this. Our pedi has never recommended our boys take a vitamin, they are 1.5 and 2.5.
I started giving DD vitamins about 6 months ago when I forced her to give up drinking out of a baby bottle. It was the only way she'd drink her milk. She'll drink anything BUT milk out of a sippy cup or using a straw. Turns out DD liked the bottle more than she liked the milk. I waited and waited for her to start drinking milk again and only very rarely now will she drink a couple ounces from a sippy cup, after a 6 month fight.
So I found Flinstones gummy vitamins that were ONLY calcium and vitamin D. There are TONS of different kinds of multi-vitamins out there for kids but they barely have any calcium (like 6%). The Calcium & vitamin D gummis have about 35% calcium. I also give her calcium-fortified orange juice. She's great about eating all kinds of fruits & veggies so the calcium & vitamin D is the only thing she's missing. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find the calcium & D vitamins in the store. A few weeks ago, I had to resort to buying adult calcium gummi vitamins (after checking the label and figuring the proper dosage) and now she's refusing to eat them. I'm at a loss what to do now...

I think around 16 months. She was being a little picky about eating. I swear there were days were she would have two bites all day. She's a peanut to begin with so I got her the vitamins to make sure she was getting something. They also have probiotics and it helps with her constipation. I'm not always the greatest at remembering to give them her.
Dd had low iron at her last appointment, and the only vitamin with iron I could find was flinstones. Too bad I never remember to give them to her. Before the iron problem she got whatever was on sale.
Umm, is it sad that it never occurred to me to give her a vitamin until this thread? She's 3.5. Oops.
My DD is 3.5 too, and we just started the vitamin based on an impulse buy at Target. I think the biggest concern is calcium, so if she consumes dairy, she's probably good.

Ha, then we are good! Despite having a milk and soy sensitivity as a newborn, DD is now a milk monster. I've joked before that I honestly think if I just kept the milk coming and didn't feed her solid food for days, she'd never complain (not that I would, but she'd probably love it).
