I apologize for picture size if this works, I'm still mobile.
I went in to the hospital on Monday to start induction. I got there and hooked up for my NST and everyhing looked good there. Had my first exam: high, tight, closed. So we go for the first prostoglandin at noon. I sent DH in to work for a couple of hours about mid afternoon since nothing was happening. He came back around 5 and my second dose was at 6ish. No change from dose 1 to dose 2. I figured that was it on the medication and we were just going to see what happened in the morning. Well, DH had to leave at 8 and after that things started to pick up. I actually had some contractions and they were regular for about 30 minutes and they stopped. My water broke about an hour before my last dose (that I didn't think I was getting). The nurses checked me: no cervical change (still high, tight, and closed); and the doctor said no third dose, we'll see if labor starts on it's own. Again had some contractions overnight, but nothing that stayed around. At 6 am on Tuesday, the doctor came to make the final determination. I was pretty hopeful that I'd made some good progress. He was hoping for 3-4 cm and low. What I was was closed and midline.
So now it was a c section, the only question was when that day. There was an openning at 8 am and an openning at noon. I pulled for noon since DH was not going to get to the hospital until 8:30 and as I was already upset and crying (which I did off and on for about 3 hours), I really didn't relish surgery alone. I was scheduled for the noon slot, likely because I'd had a chocolate bar at 4 am.
I'll skip over my rants, cries, and raves with DH. But what was nice is that my teammate who was due about a week after me was also overdue and in that morning for her NST (might end up with a story like mine stating Monday) and stopped by to bother me on her way in. We had been emailing the night before and she just wanted to know how everything was going.
So, surgery time rolls around. We're on Bermuda time, so I got walking around the corner to the OR at about 12:30. Walking into there had to be the most surreal and upsetting experience for me. I went in about 15 minutes before DH so that they could get me prepped and my spinal administered. Both of the doctors from my practice were there to perform the surgery. I got settled, the drape went up, and DH came in. He talked to me the entire time and kept me focused on something besides what was happening. Towards the end, basically right before they got Surprise out, I heard one of the doctor's say something about trying to get his head out and I asked him if this kid really was going to hold out in there until the bitter end. We all got a laugh and a couple of minutes later, he was out.
My recovery has been good so far: up and about on 18 Feb and discharged 20 Feb. We're not home because of extreme water damage from the storm on Wednesday/Thursday and there's pretty much just water everywhere in the apartment. DH won't let me in beyond the living room. We're at a little apartment of the museum director's for the time being and going to decide whether to stick it out or find somewhere new.
