I know there's a ton of posts about growth spurts and I just have to hang in there, but the past couple nights, he has kept us up most of the night with very few sleep episodes lasting longer than 45 minutes. He seems to be sleeping more during the day than he was too and we find him alert more overnight, which contributes to us staying up to get him sleepy. Will this correct on its own when the spurt is over, or do we need to do something to get him awake during the day more?
Getting days an night mixed up is common. I wouldn't worry too much about it now but I would be doing some things to make sure they are differentiated.
During the day keep the shades open, house noisy and active. Don't let baby sleep more than 3 hrs during the day, wake them up to eat if this happens.
Try winding everything down after dinner. Set a good bed time routine. It can be as simple as book/play, bath, lotion, pjs, nurse to sleep.
I agree with pp. LO had days and nights mixed up and we di as much as we could to mle daytime different from night. Around 8 weeks old he turned a corner and started sleeping better at night and moving toward a consistent bedtime. Its just so hard when you are getting so little sleep.
What I have heard and experienced is the better they sleep during day the better they sleep at night! Keeping them awake is just going to make it harder for you to get them to go to sleep!

Thanks for the advice guys! I definitely capitalized on his awake time today and he was up for longer than I've ever seen him so far! He is sleeping beautifully so far tonight! So now I feel totally juiced and ready to go after finally getting 2 continuous hours of sleep...
