DH has a potential job offer in Davidson - just north of Charlotte NC. We are in the early stages, so no real decisions or commitments yet, but we are trying to wrap our heads around the possibility of moving - again - to a place we've never really been to. (The potential company has already offered to have us fly out to look at houses etc. when the time comes, but you know what I mean). So who has been there? Lives there? Tell me anything you know!
@jodielyn lives there. I went to visit her once and thought it was the strangest place in the world. It was quiet. And clean and the city itself was DEAD. apparently we were in the business area. But still so weird to me. The area seemed nice and the housing market! Holy crap some gorgeous houses for not much money!!!!! Jodielyn will tell you More I'm sure.
babywinks,I have lived in Charlotte since 2007 and I LOVE it! I don't know where you live now, so I don't know how it will compare, but I lived in TN my entire life and moved here on a whim following my divorce. Best decision I ever made. I live in Charlotte proper, but Davidson is super close and it's a very charming little town. It's on the lake, there is a great private college there with a beautiful campus in the middle of town and the little downtown area is very charming. pegleg715, is right about the "Uptown" area of Charlotte - (it's called uptown here, not downtown) - it is very clean, very quiet, and compared to a lot of bigger cities, somewhat "dead". The migration back to the "city" is just beginning, so for many decades people only worked uptown, and lived in the suberbs. There is a ton of development happening though, so it's coming to life - restaurants, museums, Panthers and Hornets stadiums, brand new baseball park for the Charlotte Knights, tons of new condos and apartments.
I don't know how the cost of living compares to where you're from, but the housing market is great here, I think. I don't know much about the schools in Davidson, but our county just released the "report card" for all the schools, so you can check those out on-line.
Anyway, I love it here. My husband almost accepted a job in Atlanta and I was seriously thrilled that he didn't move us away. Ask me more if you have any more questions.
jodielyn10 we live near New Haven CT now - we've lived here only for a year - before that we lived in a pricey Chicago suburb. Thanks for letting me know about the report from the county I will check that out. From Zillows ratings it seems like the schools are pretty good in the area. A quiet city is fine by me. Although we have lived near some major metropolitan areas - Miami, DC, Chicago - we have always lived in the burbs. A small city might be what we are looking for.

Davidson is fairly small, but so close to Charlotte that it's be best of both worlds I think. I have friends that live in/near Davidson and we get together all the time. Based on where you've lived before, you will find the house prices to be AMAZING. You really can get so much more for your money here.
