eddiegotsole. What's your advice for these goals.
I'm trying to reduce my 2-mile time and work toward (or is it towards? Grammar police help me out here) building up endurance for a 1/2 in 10 months.
I can do my 2 mile at a 7:30-7:40 pace, but need/want to get that down to below 7:00. I've gotten myself into a training "situation" that necessitates getting faster to "save face." Ive commited to working out with a group of guys who have made it their mission the break me. Which they undoubtedly will. I'm not even going to sugar coat that, but I'm banking on effort trumping output. A-Lol. Fingers crossed.
I typically only log 3-8 miles a week because I haven't needed to build endurance, but since I've commited to this 1/2 marathon that part of my game needs some work. I guess I know short term/fairly quickly I can increase speed with interval training but what is your experience/thoughts on increasing only distance and that theoretically would increase speed when volume is reduced. Or are you a believer in a hybrid approach?
I feel like I read all this stuff about aerobic vs anaerobic training to increase distance and speed but I feel like I'm in amature zone for all things health related and the science really doesn't mean much unless you are an elite athlete the majority of the time. But, since I'm clueless in the distance running category I'll yield to a much more experienced runner. Thanks man and any other runners out there who's like to chime in.
