Welcome to the PAIF 1st tri check-in. Please let me know if you'd like to be added, your EDD, and how many beans are cooking if you know. The check-in will be posted weekly on Monday (read: late Sunday night so I don't forget).
A few questions to get you started:
How far are you now?
How are you feeling?
What and when is your next appointment?
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss?
QOTW: Dod you have any peys growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets?

Hi guys! I have really sucked at participating lately...sorry! I had nausea that was made much worse from scrolling on the computer. I'm able to tolerate it a little now, so I thought I'd do one final update before moving over to 2nd tri!
I'm 13 weeks today. The nausea has subsided quite a bit, and I've mostly been feeling tired and lightheaded. We met with our midwife and toured the birth center, and are feeling confident about our birth choices and location. We've also been telling extended family/friends the big news. I guess this is for real!
QOTW: I had a dog and a few birds as a kid. DH however grew up on a dairy farm with an assortment of dogs/cats/pigs/goats/cows/rabbits. I think it taught him a lot of responsibility to help care for them, and he has a lot of good memories from it. As soon as we can afford it we'll be moving to a more rural area where we can have land and a small hobby farm for our LO(s) to grow up on and learn from!
I'm 7w2d today, and feeling like a big ol' pile of shit. M/s has hit me so bad the past few days, to the point where I'm having to force myself to eat even though I'm so nauseous. Saturday it was all day, so I was barely able to eat anything. Yesterday was a lot better, and I ate a full lunch and dinner. Hoping today will be the same, but breakfast did not go well.
I had an appt last Friday, and we got to see the little bean w/ a hb of 141. Next appt will be 3/6, 3 days before my b-day!
QOTW: We had a few dogs growing up, but only one at any given time. The kids were asked to help w/ feeding and walks, so I think it taught us some responsibility along the way.
DX: MFI TTC April 2011 BFP #1 7/15/11, EDD 3/22/12 - CP Varicocelectomy surgery 9/4/12 - T improved to normal, but still MFI IVF #1 w/ ICSI Jan 2015 - 11R/6M/6F, ET of a 3AB expanded blast w/ none to freeze.
Hi Everyone - Unfortunately it looks like I won't be participating on this check in anymore. Our u/s on Friday showed the gestational sack, yolk sack, but no baby. We are going back on Friday morning to confirm and talk about next steps.
We are heartbroken and devastated, but finally starting to feel a little better about everything. After everything we've been through (and I know many of you have been here before), this just seems like the biggest punch to the stomach possible.
Sending lots of positive thoughts to everyone on this check in. I hope to be back here someday. Take care!
bostongirl617, I think it's normal to have that fear. I definitely felt that way before both u/s.
triathlete23, my work computer gets me nauseous too, but my laptop (at home) doesn't. Congrats on moving onto your 2nd trimester!
How far are you now? 8 weeks, 2 days.
How are you feeling? About the same. I had to stay home last Thursday because I was so sick. The only meal I kept down was lunch, and then gummy worms that night. Friday was good, Saturday I threw up the one healthy thing I ate. And yesterday was fine- I had a few healthy things and they stayed down! Still hella fatigued. Took a long nap Saturday afternoon. Our RE put in a prescription for zofran for me twice, but it's still not showing up in the system. I'll have to call again to get it fixed. I've been taking a half unisom and B6 every night, but I'm not sure how much that's helping.
What and when is your next appointment? We should have our final u/s and graduation appointment with our RE on March 9th. I should get to stop PIO shots after that appointment!
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? Our second u/s was this past Friday. The bean is measuring crown to rump as expected (about a half inch), and their heartbeat is good. I actually heard it this time! The first time was just a bunch of static, but it was clear as a bell to us. And it was so sweet, as soon as mh heard it he said "it's beautiful." We had planned to tell our families after the 2nd u/s, but we still haven't. I think mh is still too nervous about a miscarriage to tell them just yet. I'm fine either way.
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? We had cats, mice, rats, a guinea pig, a dog, snakes, a ferret, birds, and a rabbit at various times during my childhood. We always had cats, the other animals were at different times in conjunction with the cats. My parents did most (like, 95%) of the dirty work of the the animal care.
I think kids should be involved in caring for pets. We currently have 3 cats and I'm sure that our youngest cat (she's about 4 now, the other two are 14) will still be around as our child grows up. We'll probably start with having them be responsible for food and water (with us a back ups). Eventually, we'll have them take litter cleaning turns with us. If they get their own pet, I think we'll have the kid assume the majority of the responsibilities, but we'll help out.

Kittt, I am so heartbroken for you. Take care of yourself.
bostongirl617, I have the same fear. Since this was a surprise, we haven't been to the RE since last summer. We went right to the OB instead. No u/s until 12 weeks! I'm just so afraid to go that far just to get that disappointment.
AFM: 8w6d today. I'm still nauseated, especially when in the car. The preggie pop is no match for my car sickness! Tomorrow we meet with a nurse at the new OBs office in the town we are moving to. I don't expect much, just getting established as a new patient and setting up the 12w u/s. Unless this office will do one sooner. FX for that!!
Hope everyone has a good week! M/S and tiredness aside!
ETA the QOTW: Growing up I lived in a farming area. We had a few acres of land and a barn, so we always had cats and dogs. Leading to puppies and kittens. I had a pony growing up and we had a few chickens at one time. My brother and I were responsible for feeding all the animals as well as cleaning up the ponies barn stall and collecting chicken eggs. I feel having animals teaches children responsibility. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats now, and once baby is old enough, (s)he will help with feeding and cleaning. Small easy stuff.

****~~~SIGGY WARNING~~~****
Me: 33 DH: 34 Unexplained Infertility Off BCP Sept 2012. Referred to RE Oct 2013 Testing done Nov/Dec 2013 *IUI #1-#4 2/14-7/14 7/2014- DH and I decided to stop TTC and focus on us. 1/24/15- Surprise BFP!!!! Little E born 10/7/15!!
Hey ladies...I can't believe this is my last week for this check in!!! How far are you now? 12 weeks 4 days
How are you feeling? feeling good...had some major pgal brain for most of the weekend after a friend announced to me...for some reason that sent me to dark side. I had some sharp pains in my stomach twice last night when I stretched...I am guessing it is round ligament pain??? it was on one side...problem is now I am crampy and it is worrying me.
What and when is your next appointment? a week from tomorrow...detailed US where she will measure the nuchal fold and look at whatever else she can
QOTW: Dod you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? we grew up with a few different pets...now I LOVE my dogs so I can't imagine not having one. I think kids should at a point be in charge of feeding/bathing/walking/playing.
bostongirl617, I have the same fear. ANd I think it's totally shitty that the fear of no H/B is normal.
AFM:
How far are you now? 6w6d
How are you feeling? This weather change has left me feeling like complete crap. I'm pretty sure my face is going to explode, and I'm so nauseous I don't want to eat, ever. But I've been able to get through some small meals, and lots of crackers.
What and when is your next appointment? I have my first U/S at 2:15, and I'm pretty well super stressed about it.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? It's monday and I'm grumpy.
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? I had 2 dogs growing up, only one at a time though. And I LOVED it. I didn't help much with the first dog, she passed away when I was 13, so it wasn't until the end that I started helping out with feeding, walking and letting her out. Our 2nd dog I was a teenager and was a lot more involved with. And when he passed away last year (even though I hadn't lived at home with him for over 5 years and have my own dogs now) I took it really hard.

Hi ladies. I had my 1st ultrasound on the 19th and we have 2 babies!!!
How far are you now? I am 7 weeks today
How are you feeling? "Morning" sickness kicked in hard about a week ago. Most of the time it is just gagging/dry heaving, but every once in awhile I actually vomit. Most of the time I feel queasy and tired. I am having trouble eating and drinking water. Ginger Ale is my friend. What and when is your next appointment? My next appointment is on March 5th. It will be my first appointment with my OB. Apparently after the 1st ultrasound as long as everything looks good my RE "graduates" you. I will still be on Estrace, Vivelle Patches, and PIO until 13 weeks.
QOTD: We had a dog that we got as a puppy when I was about 7. We had her for almost 14 years. I was in charge of feeding her and changing her water. I think as long as the pet is for the kids, they should do most of the care such as feeding/bathing/etc as long as they are old enough.
Winnifred So sorry for the sad news. Lots of hugs!
Quick update: *** TMI warning *** 9w2d. I feel awful. Zofran is on the way for the nausea part of it since I've had a lot of difficulty with liquids. I've tried ginger, lemon, fruit punch, water, and none of it is consistently palatable. I also had diarrhea all day yesterday that was very watery at the end of the day with blood and mucus mixed in and a slightly elevated temperature (up to 99.2 when my normal non-pregnancy temp is around 97.0). The nurse this morning said I could head to urgent care if I want to, but also said it would be okay to wait a bit and see if today is better. I hope today is better. So far I've lost 4-5 pounds since the BFP.
Note: I am still grateful to be pregnant (and I hope everything is going okay with both babies).
@ketchup be thankful now for the lack of symptoms. I am so beyond happy that I went 2 weeks feeling pretty normal, because I don't think I could have handled feeling like I do now this whole time.
@dyork GL today sweetie!
nomnom FX for the Zofran, that sounds absolutely terrible.
DX: MFI TTC April 2011 BFP #1 7/15/11, EDD 3/22/12 - CP Varicocelectomy surgery 9/4/12 - T improved to normal, but still MFI IVF #1 w/ ICSI Jan 2015 - 11R/6M/6F, ET of a 3AB expanded blast w/ none to freeze.
I'm so sorry Winnifred, I hope to see you back here soon. ((hugs)) and take good care of yourself. nomnom hope you feel better soon. I've had a bit of an upset tummy for a week, can't decide if it's something I ate or not.
How far are you now? 8 weeks today (does anyone else have to peek at their ticker to keep track?)
How are you feeling? I've finally has some nausea kick in this past week, but not to the point of throwing up, just feeling icky a lot of the time and mostly in the afternoon/evening. I've developed some very strong smell aversions and food aversions (my fridge smells gross when I open it even though it's clean, just yuck). Nothing sounds good unless it's carbs or fruit. Sometimes even the thought of meats grosses me out. I'm still walking everyday and that is actually when I feel the best, I guess because my blood is pumping. I wish I could just walk all day
What and when is your next appointment? We have our 2nd u/s this Thursday! I'm anxious and excited as I feel like this will give us the best look so far with how things are going and what to expect.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I am excited to get off of this damn Crinone so I can attack my husband frequently, it's been wayyyyy too long. Dr. said he would have me take it, along with the estrogen, through 8 weeks I believe. My husband wants to ask the Dr. how we can keep my boobs this big forever, LOL.
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? Yes! I grew up in the country so we usually had cats, dogs, goats, rabbits (not all at one time). In 6th grade I got my own pony, and she shared a cow pasture with a few cows and I had to feed her in the morning before school and after school and of course take care of her. I had to walk through a trail in the woods, and then through an orange grove to get to her pasture! It wasn't too far but depending on the time of year I had to do it in the dark some mornings. It definitely taught me responsibility and what it takes to take care of an animal. I had two horses later on in life and knew what to expect. I am petless for the first time in my life which is weird. I'm hoping once our child becomes a little older DH will agree to a dog He only ever had a hamster and a goldfish so he's not a big pet person. He likes them, just never had them.
EDD is 10/20 but it hasn't been confirmed by a doctor yet. I'm thinking there is only one in there but no idea. I think I had 2 mature follies when I triggered so I guess it's possible there's 2.
How far are you now? 5 weeks, 6 days
How are you feeling? Not bad. Sore boobs and some nausea but it mostly feels like PMS. I get winded easily though. Walking to my desk from my car was tough. It's a good 5-7 minute walk and it's freezing so I was pretty much sprinting to get into the building. Took a few minutes to catch my breath when I finally sat down.
What and when is your next appointment? I go in for another beta tomorrow and ultrasound next week.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I haven't been all that thrilled with my RE office. We were actually talking about going to a different clinic before we tried anything else. But I guess they did their job. I'm just anxious to get an appointment with the midwives at the hospital I'm going to but don't know when to schedule it. I'm worried it will be a long wait.
QOTW: Dod you have any peys growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? We didn't have pets. I had fish once but they didn't last long. Our first dog was when I was in college and he was really my sisters. I think kids should have some simple responsibilities when they're young that can be increased later on. My niece is in charge of feeding MILs dog at dinner time when they are over. She gets so excited to do it!
I'm 12w2d and feeling pretty good. I'm not nearly as tired as I was weeks ago and I've been having some RLP the past few days. Hoping this bump continues to get a bit bigger so I can really look pregnant. I love having a cute bump
Next appt is Thurs and I'm excited to hear my sweeties' heartbeats. My doppler I had 3 years ago when pregnant with my son isn't working so I'm considering buying another or just trying to wait for appts to hear the heartbeats. I can't decide.
QOTW: My 2 year old feeds our dog with a bit of help. He remembers like clockwork every morning and night and it's so sweet. He scoops her food and carries her bowl to her. He's also learning to give her commands to sit and stay and then tells her "ok" when she can eat. I'm always right beside him during this and I love how much he loves her and wants to care for her. He always brushes her once a week.
*Update* Just got back to work from my U/S. It was good. I'm measuring 6w5ds, and the HB when she read it was 147BPM. The U/S tech was really happy with how everything looked. She said it looks like a completely normal pregnancy, and if she hadn't known I went through IVF she wouldn't be able to tell. They also had to check my ovaries since I was over stimulated, and they're pretty much back to normal, or as normal as they can be while being pregnant. So I stop the progesterone and estrogen patches today (yay). And can set up my appointments with my OB.
Winnifred, I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending healing thoughts to you and your DH.
nomnom, can you add me to this check in please? EDD is 10/14 and 1 bean
How far are you now? 6w5d
How are you feeling? Physically I'm feeling ok. I'm dealing with some nausea, no actual vomiting but I feel pretty sick all day. I've had my first few gagging episodes yesterday and today, and I always have this icky taste in my mouth. I'm not complaining about these symptoms though, they are my reassurance that something is still happening in there. Emotionally I'm a giant ball of anxiety. I've had spotting for the past 6 days and I'm terrified that it's just the beginning of the end.
What and when is your next appointment? I'm going in tomorrow (tuesday) for blood work and then I have my next ultrasound on Friday.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I just keeping wishing and hoping everyday that this ugly spotting stops and I can attempt to enjoy this pregnancy.
QOTW: Dod you have any peys growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? I had a dog growing up and we helped feed, walk and take care of him. I've worked in the animal field for 10 years and feel strongly that parents should not get pets just for kids unless they intend to be the primary caregivers. I've unfortunately seen many families trying to place pets because their kids have gotten bored with them and the parents don't want to take care of them. I do think having a pet can be an excellent way to help teach children responsibility...as long as there is a responsible adult leading the way.

Winnifred, I am soo soo sorry. I wish you didn't have to feel that pain. Take care of yourself.
How far are you now? 7 weeks, 4 days
How are you feeling? Ok at the moment. M/S is still kicking around. I find it seems to be worse fist thing in the morning, and in the evening. **TMI** Like this morning about 20 minutes after taking my meds, I threw up. Since I didn't really have much in there, it was just stomach acid and bile. It's horribly gross when it's bile. I've had that a few times this past week.
What and when is your next appointment? I have an appointment with a new family doctor on Wednesday. I'm hoping they will let me have an u/s sooner then 12 weeks. I really want my SCH checked on, since I still have spotting. Not daily, but probably every couple of days. It's not a lot, but still, my PAIF/PgAL brain needs to know what's going on in there
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I've been feeling the same twinges today that I felt when I believe the embies implanted. Its in the exact same spots too. I'm guessing it's where they are. One I think is on the upper right side of my ute, and the other on the middle-lower left side. I think week 7 is when their placenta really starts to develop, so maybe that's what I'm feeling?? I hope so anyway, and not anything bad
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? My mom wasn't really into the idea of having pets, despite my dad being someone who had pets his whole life. We had a couple of love birds and fish for a little while though. I did get myself a green cheek conure (like a small parrot) when I moved out of my parents place. When DH and I moved in together, I adopted his two cats as my own. Which meant I had to give up my birdy (I was too afraid of the cats wanting him for dinner). Now he's actually living with my parents. My dad LOVES him. My mom doesn't mind him lol. Our cats are almost 7, and I'm sure they still have at least another 7 (hopefully more), so I'm sure our kiddies will be able to help out at least a little. Probably not litter, but giving snacks, and filling their bowls. They can do the litter when they are older, if we get other cats.
Post by SweetieShellie on Feb 23, 2015 17:05:00 GMT -5
aves0708,ohh is that a cinnamon green cheek conure in you avatar? I just noticed it after mentioning my green cheek who's now with my parents in the QOTW. He's just a regular green cheek thou, no mutations.
Winnifred, so sorry for your loss. take care of yourself
How far are you now? 13w2d - this is my last 1st tri check in!!
How are you feeling? um, dare I say normal? Energy is back, MS is gone, and constipation is somewhat relieved. Hopefully yall will have all of this coming up soon! 1st tri was pretty miserable... but whatever-we wanted this!! I keep telling myself this!
What and when is your next appointment? FRIDAY!!! Its been forever!! I would be more nervous about hearing a HB, except I went to my BFF's house last week and used her fetal doppler and heart it immediately! And DH wasn't with me, so is it bad that I didn't tell him so he wouldn't be upset that he didn't hear it first with me? I feel kind of guilty, but I don't regret it... He will hear it Friday, lol.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I'll miss you all until you make it to 2nd tri! Great group I'll still be lurking on your progress!
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? I've had pets my whole life--I think the longest I went without a pet of my own was when I was in grad school and moved out of my parents' house. My mother is a pet-whore. She has 3 large dogs, a pig, 2 birds, and 4 horses right now... Currently DH and I have 2 cats and a dog. We decided that we probably won't get a puppy again, but an adult dog later after our child is a little older. This last one burnt us out on the idea of getting another puppy ever again. They are cute, but hard work! I have a feeling a baby will be easier then her!
Me: 30, PCOS DH:31 (SA normal) Married June 2012 TTC Nov. 2013-Nov.2014 Nov/Dec 2014:Femera 7.5mg + Trigger + TI = BFP!!EDD 8/29/15 Team Blue! WRB born 8/19/15 at 3:06pm, 8lbs2oz, 21.5inches Surprise BPF 9/10/16 with #2! EDD 5/15/17 TEAM PINK!
MrsMatt I am so sorry for your loss. I hope to see you back here again. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
How far along are you now? 9 weeks, 2 days
How are you feeling? Constant MS, all day most everyday. It feels like it gets worse by the day.
What and when is your next appointment? Just had an appointment today. Everything looks good, next appointment is in 3 weeks for my early risk assessment.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? Friday had a bleeding scare. As in blight red bleeding with clots! So terrified, they did an emergency U/S and the bleeding had slowed/stopped. It was the one day in weeks that I had zero MS/nausea and my energy was great. Cue the panic! They can't figure out why the bleeding is happening and why it was worse this time. The babies were perfect though, I guess that's all that matters in the end.
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? I grew up with tons of animals over the years. As an adult I don't desire to have that many animals! No thanks! I would like the kids to feed the 2 cats when they get older.
Congrats this is great news! Question....did they do a blood test to check your progesterone levels before they told you it was ok to stop? I'm just curious since my doc will have me stop soon as well. I feel a little hesitant to just stop the crinone unless they do a blood test to make sure I'm making enough on my own. Thanks!
nomnom, I hope you feel better soon! @dyork, congrats on the ultrasound! chiwifey, @buttmonkey, vballbaby, good luck on this week's ultrasound! Mine is Friday!
@ketchup, Yes on the nips. Mine just feel like giant hot bruises. I swear sometimes the skin even hurts.
I'm six weeks, two days today. I'm ok, but had nausea over the weekend which was not great. First ultrasound is Friday - I'm praying for that heartbeat!
Anyone try preggi pops? Are they worth the money?
I had cats, dogs, fish, hamsters, and a rabbit. I would never do hamsters again, but feeding a dog or cat would be ok for 'lil
Post by lilyharper on Feb 23, 2015 21:57:13 GMT -5
Winnifred, all the (((((hugs))))). Waiting for a repeat u/s to confirm is the worst. I'm really sorry and I hope to see you back here soon. Please feel free to pm me too, I've been there a few times. Take care of yourself, pampering, the whole bit.
Everyone else, I'm so sorry I'm late to the party. I'll try to go back and tag later.
How far are you now? 8 weeks 1 day
How are you feeling? Tired. And behind...because I'm tired. Lesson planning and grading has been sort of optional, which you know, uh, it isn't.
What and when is your next appointment? I have an intake appointment on Wednesday for my ob, but it's basically a history thing. And my "graduation" scan is on Friday. I hope.
Anything else you'd like to share or discuss? I'd really like my cervix to quite being such a pissy bitch. It's my fucking birthday, and I get pink spotting for the first time in days. Way to be a killjoy cervix. But, my progesterone was 33 and my estradiol is over 2000 so! Sounds like I won't be stabbing any more veins, because I'm off PIO, but back on endometrin 3 times a day, which means little Ms. Cervix is going to throw a hissy. And I'm only on estradiol once a day instead of three times, so happy birthday to me.
QOTW: Did you have any pets growing up? What role (if any) do you think kids should play in caring for pets? Somewhat. We rented a lot, so either we smuggled in pets (moms cat) or we had birds. Which, we didn't do well, poor parakeets. We also had fish, again, who met an unfortunate end. They were positioned on top of the toilet tank (weird, I know) and when there was an earthquake they literally flushed themselves due to the weight of the rocks/water. We hope they managed to make it but, uh, doubtful. When I was in high school we moved to a house and got two cats, one of which is my 15 y/o who is sitting in her uterus warming position as we speak. For responsibility I think it depends on how it's structured. I think parents should always anticipate being the main caregiver, because, you know, these are living breathing beings and 7 year olds don't always remember things, but I think that it should be a task that the child is capable of doing and, if needed reminded (prodded).
vballbaby, you know, they didn't do a blood test. Which does make me nervous, but I know after my blood test for my 3rd beta they did comment that if everything looked okay at the u/s they would probably stop the progesterone. So I'm not sure if my level then had something to do with it.
juneroses, I use the preggie pops for when I'm pretty nauseated. I got them the first time at BRU, but since that's pricey I went on amazon for my next stash.
I'm jealous of everyone getting to stop the PIO shots. I'm on them and estrogen patches just over 10 weeks. They haven't been checking my prog levels, they just say 10 weeks as a standard protocol. I'm guessing they'll check it at my last RE appointment before giving the final okay to quit (I'll be 10 weeks, 2 days). But(t) I keep telling myself that the shots will be over before I know it, FX!
