Happy Monday
Babe is 1.5 weeks Weight gain is fine I'll be interested to see what it is on out two week checkup on Thursday. Honestly, we seem to have hit the turning point where bf doesn't hurt so much and engorgement is down, finally.
Favorite nursing position? Hmm I guess just cradle hold, babe eats and drains the boobs a little better. We do side lying at night but she also tends to take forever in that position.
Age: DD was 3 weeks old yesterday! I was hoping BF'ing would be easier by now, but it's not really :s
Weight gain: LO was gaining well and was 5oz over bw at her 10 day check up. We go again on Wednesday so we will see how she's doing.
Major issues/struggles: I have seriously bad cracked nipples that will not heal. I have used APNO since 5 days PP because of the cracks and it's not healing. I have been hanging out topless for the last week trying to let them air dry in hopes it will help but I am leaking so much they are always damp. Ugh… @amyg any ideas how to help this along?
Favourite nursing position: Either cradle hold because I feel like she drains my breasts best also, although OALD/OS seems to drown her so side lying seems to be the most successful to her nursing without screaming or spit up.
How old is baby? 2 weeks, 3 days Weight gain going well? He was 5 ounces over birth weight at 10 days, his two week appointment is this afternoon so hopefully the weight gain is still going well. Major issues or questions? It seems like I'm always nursing, bit I offer the breast anyone he is rooting or crying. Will newborns overfeed themselves? He doesn't spit up that often, I've heard that is a sign of overfeeding, so I don't know. What is your favorite nursing position so far? We do football hold most often. Sometimes the cradle hold, but he seems to pop off more often in cradle.
Weight gain going well? Yup. He's 1.5 Oz away from being back to birth weight.
Major issues or questions? FTM and so it's hard to tell when he really needs to nurse or if he is just wants comfort sucking. Like, I can tell the difference when he is on the boob if he's swallowing or just sucking, but it's hard to tell when he's crying if he's hungry or just wants to be soothed in other ways. Any tips? Also, he is still sometimes nursing for 25-30 minutes on one side. And much of that time he is just comfort sucking- but I should just leave him on until he pops himself off, right?
What is your favorite nursing position so far? Since my nipples are still pretty sore, I've been just rotating holds. No real favorite yet.
I always put DS on the boob whenever he started getting fussy. People would comment on how he "couldn't possibly be hungry AGAIN", because he just fed 45 minutes prior. I paid them no mind, and nursed baby all the freaking time at that age. It's good for your supply, and it made me much less anxious. At first people would try to soothe him, and I would just start to sweat when it didn't work. I'd rather nurse the baby and quickly get him soothed then watch some idiot try to rocking him while he screamed!
