Nothing really geared towards mothers specifically but I've always loved the Secret. It's a lot about positivity and sending out positive energy. Don't know if you are familiar with it or not. They also have different books as well like The Energy (I think) and others which is a variation of the original but along the same lines.
I do have the Secret! I should pull that out again.
I found some TED Talks on Netflix Streaming including one on Mindfulness. It's 10 minutes long and tells you a little more about the benefits and somewhat how to do it. I had to get some tips from my DH but I still am not sure I'm doing it "right".
Hey Ladies! I (a Dad here) don't mean to barge in, but I do practice mindfulness personally and it is a large part of my treatment professionally (Psychologist). I love Jon Kabat-Zinn. Great audiobooks/CDs for mindful practice. I find mindful based play with my kiddo to be much needed most days. I can tell the difference in my enjoyment and DS1 seems to prefer quality play time over quantity any day.

Thanks! I use a lot of different mindfulness exercises and am always looking for new, easy to use aids. A colleague suggested an app called headspace. I'm giving it a shot. 10 mins (a day) for 10 days is the free version. Anyone else tried it? Tomorrow is day 1.

I have not personally tried this app, but my dad is a Psychologist and keeps telling me to download Mayo Clinic's app as he's heard great things from his patients about it. It's only available on the iPhone so that is why I never did. It's called "Mayo Clinic Meditation".
What do you think so far of the app that you downloaded?

So far I'm a big fan. It's great for practice and even better for beginners who are brand new to mindfulness. There are awesome animations for various mindfulness concepts (ie cars on a road, etc) that I really like. The major downside is that although the 10 minutes for 10 days is free, the rest of the app requires a monthly subscription. Yet, I might actually splurge and get it. I've been able to do the 10 minutes a day or rather per night. Night is the worst for any symptom really and my mind tends to take me places I'd rather not go while I'm up for middle of the night feelings. So, I try to be mindful feeding my guy, which has been great. I recognize his cues a little easier if I'm really paying attention to him which makes putting him back to bed a much smoother process. Then, I bring him upstairs before going back down to the couch to do my 10 mins. It really puts me in a better headspace (not meant to plug the app lol! Just the truth) to fall back asleep after having been awake for 30-40 mins feeding, changing, and rocking.
I may check out the mayo clinic app. A one time $3 is better than a monthly fee if the quality is there. A friend has subscribed to Headspace for almost 7 months now and says it's totally worth it. She will be back in my clinic Thursday and I plan to set aside a little time to check out all the features of the subscription.

I'll post a mini review Friday or this weekend.
I'm recovering from Insomnia that stemmed from having to wake in the middle of the night to feed my daughter when she was an infant. I, too, took a while to fall back asleep, granted I was nursing so I did side-lying in bed but maybe you could feed your son the same way in bed laying on your side. One really good tip I got was to not wake myself up too much with thoughts while feeding so I closed my eyes and was told to only focus on her nursing. Think about her, imagine her, think about how it feels, etc. This worked like a charm! I even one feel asleep in the middle of a feed which I never really want to do, but it went to show me how well it works. Maybe you could try similar imagery/thoughts as you give the bottle.
mama2a, sleep or lack thereof is no joke. Thanks for the suggestions. I probably should go back to giving him bottles in his nursery. I try to not feed him in our room or it keeps my wife up. My sleep hasn't turned back into a patterned problem, but I've definitely developed some automatic thoughts over the past 2 years that occasionally lead to some poor sleep here and there. I've found mindfulness to be extremely helpful in dealing with those thoughts day or night. Recently those MOTN feedings coupled with lack of sleep and some increased stressors make the thoughts more frequent. I know the thinking is illogical and/or misinformed but still keeps me up at times. I'll take your sleep hygiene/stimulus control suggests to heart. Improved sleep makes everything better in my book. It's easier to deal with life when rested.
I finally had a chance to check out the full version of Headspace. It is actually freakin amazing. I'm not entirely sold on paying $90+ a year for the subscription though. I tried to reframe and remind myself it's an $8/month gym membership for the mind, but I'm still hesitant to pull the trigger.
It has like 90+ different exercises focused for various things from stress to pain to eating to sleep to whatever and its consistently growing. The exercises range from as little as 2 mins to 60 and you can select the timeframe that suits you.
MW keeps saying I should school her in mindfulness. If I can get her on board I might get it. I can rationalize just about anything and if we "split the cost" even though it's coming out of our account, it's only $45! That's a steal! Since you can download to multiple devices I think I might do it.
