Floatation swimsuits: thoughts

The swim class we're starting in a few weeks actually advises against them, at least until kids are very good swimmers and even then only in specific situations. Apparently they can create a false sense of security and then kids run into trouble when they get near a pool without a floatation suit on.

Can you get LO in for swimming lessons soon instead?

I bought something similar on clearance last fall. We may use it if we go rafting or swimming at the lake this summer, but probably not in the pool. We are also going to do swim lessons this year and won't be able to use anything like that.

Also just from my small experience, I've never know floaties to really fall off. They have always been a pain in the butt to get on, and I think you would notice if they were starting to slip off before it became a problem.

Just hanging around the pool I would do a life jacket for safety and then if you are in the pool with him nothing.

We had a swimsuit with blow up floaties in it for dd1. I remember we only blew it up the one time. It was awkward. I remember it made her float odd. It was also made by Speedo. I'd recommend skipping floatation suits. (Ours was from 7-8 years ago so maybe they're designed better now?)
