For those of you living in colder regions, how do you manage snow clearing/shovelling with your LO's? It's still dark outside when I leave for work, and DD is too little to leave inside alone. This week I put her in the car watching videos on the ipad while I cleared the driveway. Seemed to work for a short time. Any other ideas?

I clear after I put everyone to bed and keep the monitor in my pocket. If it's bad enough I have to snow blow I take the chance of them flipping out, but safely in their beds.
I live with my dad currently, so luckily he pays for a service. But before that, I would also just keep the monitor with me while my DD slept. We have a snowblower and it's pretty loud, but her room isn't close to the driveway, so maybe I also lucked out for that, too. She's also still in a crib (19mo), I'll be transitioning her soon to a toddler bed, so I don't know exactly what I'll do when we move out.
Are you able to wake up before her? I mean for days where it snows overnight. Or, maybe while you warm up the car have her in her carseat with something to entertain herself with while you shovel?
I am normally out of bed about an hour before DD so I shovel before she gets up. However, I only shovel a pathway on our back deck to the garage door and don't worry much about the driveway since I have 4WD. If it gets too bad, I'll either pay my next door neighbor to snow blow or call a plow. It'd have to be blizzard like conditions for me to cough up any $$, though.
I was looking for a toddler size snow shovel but we don't really have enough snow to worry about. Too bad since DD would have a freaking blast. That and DD's brand new boots don't fit her anymore so I'm sending them to 20thirteen. Happy last week of January!
