Declan Knight was born on 2/17 at 9:44am via Emergency C-Section. He was 7lbs 14oz and 20.5in long.
On Saturday, I got nested like crazy. I cleaned everything and moved pictures around on the walls; the whole nine yards. While I was cleaning, I kept feeling contractions. They were spaced out a good half hour or so. That night I was around 3-5min apart. I called the doctor at 4am Sunday. He said I could stay home and wait until I couldn't walk or talk through the contractions. DH and I went to the mall on Sunday morning to celebrate Valentine's Day (clearance Gertrude Hawk) and walked the mall for a bit. The contractions had spaced back out.
Sunday around 6pm, the contractions were back to 3-5min. I had a bloody show and it felt like my water had broken (trickle). We went to the hospital. After being checked and some monitoring, the doctor said I was in early labor but my water had not broken (just the bloody show kept coming). I had not dilated any more since my last prenatal appt (1cm). She had us walk the halls for 2 hours and checked me again. 2cm! She sent me home and said that if the contractions got worse, and I couldn't walk or talk through them, to come back. I was in too much pain to sleep. Around 2am Monday morning, I woke my husband up. I couldn't handle the contractions. I could still talk, but it was definitely interfering with my walking. Back to the hospital.
I hadn't dilated any more, but the doctor had us walk the halls again for another 2 hours. That got me to 3cm. She decided to admit me at that point. DH and I kept walking the halls as much as we could, but I didn't dilate further. The doctor ruptured my water around 1pm to help labor progress.
I had wanted a med-free birth, but I was having a hard time dealing with the contraction post water rupture. They got more intense. I didn't want to go full epidural, so I had the nurse give me Stadol. Worse decision ever. I was groggy and half asleep but still getting full blown contractions with no way of dealing with them. Once that faded and I started to wake up more, I demanded the epidural. Best decision ever. The anesthesiologist did a damn good job. I felt no pain but could still move my legs and feel the pressure of the contractions.
Since I was not progressing, the doctor started me on the lowest dose of pitocin. All Monday night into Tuesday morning, the nurse kept having me switch sides. Declan was not tolerating labor. They kept putting me on oxygen and eventually took me off the pitocin. Around 6am, the doctor told me I was at a nine. They put me back on pitocin to help me get to 10. At 9am, I was still at 9cm. Declan was still having heart decells with every contractions. I was put next in line for an emergency c-section.
