Not really. How long is it acceptable to leave him in his bedroom crying through the crack under the door while he kicks at it because he can't get it open? I hope a really freaking long time because I cannot do him any longer!!!! He barely napped this afternoon and he is just so. Freaking. CRABBY!!!!!!
I know it's hard to listen to, but I'd let him cry for as long as it takes. Maybe check on him or talk to him through the door every so often. Giving in will just teach him that this behavior will get him to be able to stay up all night, which, for your well being and his, cannot be acceptable. Obviously you both need sleep. Sorry he's giving you a rough time

I ignored the tantrum until he hit the hysterical point. He was gasping and screaming, so I went in. I cuddled him until he calmed, tucked him back in... and I think I figured out the root of the issue. We put a doorknob thing on the inside of his bedroom to keep him in his room, and he did NOT like that. Do I took it off. It still took the better share of 45 minutes, but he's finally sleeping.
Thank. God.
Yay for finally falling asleep. I'm sorry it was such a rough night!
