She interviewed my kids and they apparently charmed the pants off her, especially our little one. Then it was my turn and we started chatting and she asked me if DH and I had decided on which risk level we were going to go with and that got us talking about that, so she had DH come into the room and we spend a lot of time talking about that. It was a really good conversation and we're just going to make another appointment with her to come back to do my interview. She's going to be here on Tuesday for DH's interview.
She likes us so much that she essentially came out and told us that once we're licensed, it probably won't be long before she's calling us about what they call a "teaming." Basically, when a child comes up as needing placement in a pre-adoptive home, the DCF central office looks through all the adoption registrations and pulls out all the ones who match the basic criteria (desired level of legal risk, age range, race, etc.), and then they reach out to those families' social workers to let them know our registration form has been selected. The SW then contacts the family and presents all of the known information about the child and asks the family if they want to be considered for placement. If you say yes, then this happens:
Adoption Home Study Review
The social worker and supervisor shall review home studies and select those to be reviewed by the team as follows:
If the Social Worker and Supervisor Receive… more than five (5) studies for consideration
Then the Social Worker and Supervisor shall… select no more than five (5) for review
If the Social Worker and Supervisor Receive… four (4) or fewer studies
Then the Social Worker and Supervisor shall… review all four (4) studies
The studies, along with the child’s referral packet, shall be distributed to each team member for review at least five (5) working days prior to the meeting date.
Team members shall read the home studies and be prepared to participate in the discussions and decision.
At the "teaming" meeting, they discuss all of the home studies and then vote on which family they think is the best match. I can't remember how many people we were told are on this team, but it's a group of various people.
Anyway, I thought it was very cool that she said that and it makes us feel hopeful that we might not have to wait too long to be called about a possible placement. And she said the very latest that we will be licensed is June 23rd because it has to happen within a certain number of days after we submitted our signed application, which was in December. But she said the reason she's doing our homestudy interviews before our class ends, rather than after, is so that we'll be licensed well before June. This is really promising and I'm really starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and get excited!
