Gifts for a one year old girl

Here's some of what DS got for his first last summer that are things he likes playing with:

My parents got DS a cozy coupe for his birthday, my ILs got us a wagon, and my brother and sister went together and got him a Radio Flyer tricycle (he was too small to figure it out and reach the pedals last summer but did like getting pushed on it).

One of our friends gifts that really sticks out is a little lawnmower. He loves that thing and I've brought it to play dates and when we have kids over and it usually gets fought over lol. (Even if it's been indoor play for the last few months haha). Another thing he got that he just enjoys more and more is bathtub Mega blocks.

After watching a bunch of 1 year old aged children at a barbecue this past weekend, I would second the lawn mower or really any "push" toy. Literally watched 3 kids in this age group have the time of their lives with a toy lawn mower, toy vacuum and the "old school" toy that has little balls that pop up when you push it.

I second the wooden puzzles -- both of my nieces loved them! Maybe a book, too? It's always nice to add to a child's collection

That one may be a little young for a one year old. That is more for little ones that are just starting to pull up and "walk" behind a toy.  Something like a grocery cart, lawn mower, vacuum that they see mom and dad use might be better.

Yes, I agree with alayne926 that the VTech walker is better suited for kids younger than 1.  A shopping cart and play food (or another push toy or ride-on) would be a better gift.  Also 1 year olds are obsessed with board books, flap books, etc.  There was a thread the other day about Children's books if you need book ideas. ETA: Touch and feel books. Really any books.

DD mostly got larger things for her first birthday which I'll assume are way out of your price range like her tricycle, play kitchen, etc.

Yeah, don't get clothes.  I am not a fan of clothes as a gift, especially if you don't know the exact size to get.

Melissa and Doug is great and the push toys are also great! Can't go wrong with either of those. I would not recommend the push toys with the balls that pop up when you push them or make a lot of noise. Mommy can only take so much of the same noise all day.
