So Hannah never used a soother, like ever. It is appearing that Bea is a soother baby. I just want to know if we're using it right.
Okay here's the situation. I feed her lots, she's still fussy but keeps falling asleep within minutes on the boob. So the other day I gave her a soother afterwards. She calmed down. There was peace lol. It has reduced the amount of wake time during MOTN feedings significantly.
So big question is this. A baby won't take a soother when it's still hungry right? It will spit it out and keep crying right? I have no idea. Also does the type of soother matter? We're just using a Playtex one I had lying around. Thanks.

My LO would take a soother when she was still hungry, sometimes she needed a few minutes to regroup after a bottle. However she had reflux and was very small so her stomach could only take 1 oz for a month then two oz for like 4 months she never has been able to drink more than 5 oz even now.
If your LO is still hungry she would prob chomp on the soother and then eventually spit it out and cry for more milk.
Type of soother doesn't matter unless the baby won't take a certain one. We always used the Avent soothie pacifier in different sizes.

S was a soother baby. It took us awhile to realize that she was over eating bc she wanted to continue to suck (she would eat too much and spit up a ton after).
I fed her for awhile, then would offer the bink. Then we'd wait (we had to hold her upright for a half hour after feedings to help the milk stay down anyway). If she was still hungry she'd start fussing and crying after a few mins. Otherwise she'd fall asleep.
My experience is that they'll spit it out and cry for food if they're hungry. If not, then the soother should pacify them for a bit (until it falls out - that's a full time job right there!). Doesn't matter the type as long as the baby is good with it.
In our experience if LO is still hungry she will still fuss with a soother, and continues to be restless until I feed her again. I think if she falls asleep with the soother she probably just needed to suck on something!!
