How old is LO?
How's it going?
Have you seen a LC outside of the hospital? How did it go?
Future concerns/questions?
LO is 3 weeks old today and I'm pretty sure we have started the 3wk growth spurt. She constantly wants the breast, is very fussy and will sometimes be frantic and rooting when on the breast. She also hasn't pooped in about 18 hours minus one skid mark diaper. She also is spitting up a lot. Still peeing normally though. Is this typical?
My shoulders and neck are very sore because I'm always hunched over watching her eat. We only do football hold because that's the only position the nurse taught me at the hospital. We have not met with LC.

9 days old.
Things are going ok. She has such a hard suck that my nipples are having a hard time healing.
Went to LC once so far to evaluate latch. I'm thinking I will call again this week just to double check for a tongue tie (because of her tongue clicking).
My main concern right now is my poor beat up nipples.

This sounds identical to what my DD just went through and it was definitely her growth spurt. She gained 9oz in 2 days! I was super worried as she did not have any dirty diapers for about 36hrs and slept for almost 24hrs straight mostly dream feeding and waking only to cry. I had our MW check her out and she told me she was healthy and it was perfectly normal. If you are concerned check with your health care provider but it sounds like a growth spurt.

New poster over here but really hoping that breastfeeding works this time around.
DD is 12 days today and it's going so much better than it did with DS. He had an undiagnosed tongue tie which I think is what caused a clogged duct turned mastitis turned abscess DD is a feeding champ though and we are already back to birth weight!
We have not had to see the LC outside of the hospital but I plan on calling the hospital LC to find out about pumping when I go back to work. I work at the hospital so I'm hoping that she can let me know of pumping areas so I don't have to use an empty patient room.
My biggest concern right now has to do with latch on pain that I found out today is called the "60 second sizzle." How long is that going to last? Weeks? Months? Forever? Is there anything I can do to help? It only lasts a little bit until she gets going but the pain really makes me question if we can keep this up.

Welcome and congratulations!
I havent heard it called that, but I remember the the toe-curling, catch your breath, count back from 10 latch pain.
Im pretty sure it passes or at least gets better for most people. My memory is a little fuzzy. I know mine gradually faded in duration and intensity over the first weeks. There was a point in time -- maybe 6 or 8 weeks -- that I realized initial latch didn't hurt anymore. And, I wasn't quite sure when it stopped hurting. I think it was around 12w that I realized nursing was enjoyable.
Tips for dealing : curl your toes, catch your breath, and count back from 10 with long slow exhale.
rmsteele, it took me around 6 weeks too for the initial latch pain to go away. After that happened, I felt like we really turned a corner in our bfing relationship. I was like you, and doubted whether I'd like to continue nursing if it always felt like that. I mostly toughed out those first 6 weeks out of sheer stubbornness. After the latch pain went away, everything changed and it really was so much more enjoyable.
How's it going? Better. We are combo feeding, but have been able to dial back on supplementing as my supply is coming up a bit. Pumping is helping with the supply and with frustration on my and DS's parts.
Have you seen a LC outside of the hospital? How did it go? Not yet. I've contacted one and we're going to the breastfeeding support group at the hospital tomorrow. The group is run by the hospital LC. The midwife at the GP's diagnosed DS with a lip tie, and gave me the contact information for the two places that fix lip and tongue ties, but apparently we need a referral form. I'm going to see if the LC at the hospital will fill out the referral form for us, otherwise it's back to the GP.
Future concerns/questions? The lip tie and balancing supplementation are our biggest concerns. I feel like crap combo feeding, but not as bad as I'd feel starving my baby. Hopefully we'll work out the supply issues so we won't have to supplement.
Edited because I can't add. I blame all the additional years of math I took.

How old is LO? Not quite three weeks
How's it going? Much better this week although she is attached to my boob quite a but the last day or so.
Have you seen a LC outside of the hospital? How did it go? Nope
Future concerns/questions? I feel a little concerned that I don't have the patience for DD like I had for DS. It is just do much more challenging to balance the needs of two little people I think she was really frustrated last night because I had to keep unlatching her so I could make dinner and attend to DS with two hands. Made for a long evening

Can someone remind me how long the first growth spurt lasts? We're on day 2 and my usually happy dd is a crabby mess that doesn't seem to be satisfied.
So far it's going pretty well. My milk took a full 4 days to come in and we had to supplement. I tried pumping but I think the flange was too large. I ordered the smallest medela size and hope that does the trick.
I have not seen a LC outside of the hospital. I called about my pumping issue & they asked me to come to the support group. Well, it was another snowstorm that night & LO was napping, so I chose to stay and nap too.
I'm concerned about pumping. If the flange doesn't work, I will have to go in person.

The ones I've went through so far have lasted about 3 days each.
How old is LO? 3 and a half weeks, getting close to a month!
How's it going? We have been going through some growth spurts and fussy evenings. There have been a few sore nip days, especially when he pulls on and off. Lately he wants to nurse every half hour, then sleeps for a long stretch and repeats.
Have you seen a LC outside of the hospital? How did it go? No, but I have info about a local LLL support group, and I think I may try to visit.
Future concerns/questions? I'm going to try out the pump here in a few days. I go back to work in a couple of weeks, I'm not excited for that but I have to start getting ready for it. We got the pump out of the box and took a look at it, but since he is in a growth spurt, I'm waiting to try it out.

They were 2-3 days and then lots of sleep for us, too.
