Ladies, a little help please. LO's daycare told my hubbie at pick up that they needed more milk since lo had finished what I left this morning. I left 16 oz this a.m. 16! & his report only has he drank 7 oz. WTF. I called and asked why they would be so wasteful with my bm. Tomorrow I only have 9 oz to give them. I want to type up a how to treat/feed bm instruction sheet. I can't find any concrete info only on what to do after warming up bm. Should I instruct them to warm up, feed, refrigerate leftovers, & then warm up again? Or warm up once and keep out and for how long?
Fyi, I pump the bm one day, refrigerate and then provide it the next day to the daycare.

Yea, not sure how to politely tell them how to do their job, but that just seems absurdly wasteful. Can you make up a schedule of what you would do if you were at home and ask them to try and follow it?
It might help to store it in the BM storage bags in the amount you want him to receive at feedings and then tell them to feed him only one at each feeding.

Do they have a policy regarding how long they can keep it out after it's been fed? I know our daycare is required to throw it out an hour after it's fed-- they can't put it back in the fridge. Giving them a few bottles with just a couple of oz was helpful for this reason. If LO still seemed hungry at the end of a feed, at least they'd only waste an oz or so if she didn't finish the extra bottle. Your situation sounds like they wasted way more than was necessary, though.

Yeah I had been giving 2 oz & 3 oz baggies. His report shows only 1.5 oz or 2 oz. I'll try to provide only 2 oz going fwd.

That's what I thought when we started going there, that they knew how to handle bm. I hate to create a problematic relationship.

The woman I talked to couldn't explain policy or how so much was wasted. It might be better if I wait until friday to talk it out with the teacher. When I drop off someone watches lo for the 1st hr and then pickup is done by dh. Frid I can go in later and see his teacher.
Yes I was told it had to be thrown out an hour after it was heated. But at home I serve it cold so I might asked they just do that. So sorry they wasted so much. I would be so upset. Breast milk so so valuable!
I would always heat up the least amount which was 2oz and if he was still hungry, I would heat up another oz. It's a lengthy process but breast milk is precious if you're taking that time to pump it. Sorry the daycare is giving you such a headache :/

I would freak out if that much of my milk was wasted. I was pissed when I had to pour out 2 oz of milk because I only brought one bottle to pump into. My mom called me a milk hoarder.

1hr after starting the feed is standard policy in any regulated environment. (It's what we follow on our pediatric ward). They're required to toss the unused portion.
Most also won't divy up the breastmilk. They give it however you have sorted it. I would recommend sending a ton of 1 and 2oz bottles until you get a better pattern of how he eats.
