I had a cervical check yesterday (39w) and now I'm experiencing red spotting and cramping. That's normal, right? How long will this last? I didn't have this w S and not after my the last two checks i had this pregnancy.
I should say that it's mixed in w discharge but i don't think it's from the mucus plug (ew). It's too watery for that.
Soooo, my only experience with spotting after a cervical check was within an hour of my water breaking. I think it was the beginning of my mucous plug. So, I'm going to vote for things being VERY close!!!

Just read about these yesterday, and spotting is apparently very common. Is still call my doctor, just to discuss it with them.
The nurse at OB ER warned me that I might bleed after a cervical check when I was around 20 weeks. But I think at 39 weeks I would certainly wonder if it was the start of labor. Perhaps a quick call to let the nurse know about the bleeding and get their "totally normal" response is in order?

I partly wish this were the case!! Of course DH is working and its snowing. Expecting 8 inches in south Jersey which is a stupid amount of snow for the area.

Sounds about right! Did you spot at all yesterday? It seems weird to me that'd you wouldn't spot yesterday, but start spotting today (if that's the case). I'm definitely voting for early labor signs.

I had a little last night and then more over night and into this morning.
I'm thinking it's bc of the check yesterday...tho I'm dying for labor to start. I feel like I'm going to be pregnant forever at this point (cue overly dramatic pregnant lady). I've just never had spotting of any kind in a pregnancy so it surprised me.
I'm thinking early signs of labor.....giving a quick call wouldn't hurt....which they will say, I'm sure, completely normal. I never had any spotting with DD after a cervical check, but I know my sister did. Hoping this IS the start of labor for you!!!!!
@ducky719 I had a check on Monday (the day before 39w) and GUSHED all night Monday and cramped and gushed all day Tuesday. Some big gross hunks came out that made me think plug but with all the blood I couldn't tell. Now it's Thursday and it's minimal and dark brown and I'm still pregnant. I hope you're close!

Your provider probably "swept" or "stripped" your cervix during your check. This can cause spotting & cramping is is very normal- but always call your provider for official advice.
They may tell you to chill at home until contractions become closer/longer/stronger. Some call it the "511" rule- contractions lasting at least a minute, 5 mins apart for at least an hour.
jenny935, your gushing is a little more more out of range, but I'm glad to hear it has resolved. You can opt out of a check this week if you like to avoid more gushing... Totally up to you.
When I was reading last night, it said spotting was more common in the last few weeks after sex or cervical checks. But given that you are SO close to the end, it may be a sign of early labor.
Our practice says "We won't strip your membranes but we can be less than gentle during your checks." With DS I went 5 days early and didn't have a check that close to the end. Since today would be 4 days early I'm more pregnant than I've ever been in my life...
