I was on melatonin for about 3 mo for insomnia. Went for b/w and follies 9&10 FSH 20.3. Couldnt proceed due to ins. Reasons...They told me get off melatonin and following month my b/w was FSH 23.8 follies 5&6. I was cancelled. Started royal jelly and wheatgrass. FSH was lowest it's ever been at a 20 but follies still 5&6. Canceled.
Just read melatonin can improve levels and wondering if levels were so great 1st time cause I was on it.
Q's : Anyone try out melatonin, c10, dhea to improve levels? Did it work? Will anything work to improve follies that you suggest ie supplements, diet, etc.
Anyone proceed with that low of follies with success and have comparable FSH?
He said it's my overall decision to proceed but he recommended not to. I decided to research and see what I can do to improve it. This is it for me. My last chance. TIA

I was kind of surprised they canceled you with a low AFC. My AFC for my successful cycle was 5 total...actually it was 4 because one of those was a cyst. (1 & 3). I got 7 eggs and 3 embryos - which were all good quality on day 3. Transferred 2, the other one didn't make it to freeze. 1 baby. My FSH was borderline/high for that cycle.
I was on 600 mg CoQ10 (300 2x a day) for 3 months before that cycle. My egg quality was much better on CoQ10.
I know that doesn't fully answer your question - but I hope it helps a little.

Kirkland/Costco - because I'm cheap. There were probably a number of factors that went into my drastically improved egg quality. The first round I had 1 fertilize and it was 3 cells on day 3. Some of it was that the second round, I was on stims two fewer days due to a protocol change...but I really think at least part of it was the CoQ10.
I have also read that melatonin can be beneficial but it might inhibit ovulation (which would not be an issue if we are doing IVF and taking trigger shot right?) my RE didn't think it could hurt, but also wasn't totally optimistic because she said the research wasn't completely sound. My last two cycleS I was taking DHEA and CoQ10 for a few weeks and then for 3 months prior. The cycle where I was on for just few weeks, only one egg fertilized. The second cycle where I had been taking both for 3 months, they retrieved and fertilized more eggs than cycle two years earlier that produced DD. However, even that cycle ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks and no frozen.
I am interested in what else you learn and decide about the melatonin.
I actually called and told them I wanted to proceed and then changed my mind while I was on the phone with them. Now I'm regretting it and wish I would've proceeded but I can't call them back. They already think I'm nuts.

I am so sorry you were cancelled. The highest my FSH has ever been was a 10.3 or something (definitely in the 10's). My AFC has always been 9 (both sides combined total) or lower. I took RJ before and it did seem to help a little but I had to stop when I learned it can feed a fibroid and I have fibroid issues. I saw the biggest improvement with CoQ10. It lowered my FSH a couple of points and helped my egg quality. I used the Qunol brand and took a total of 600 mg daily (broken up in two 300 mg doses). I have heard good things about wheatgrass but have never tried it.

I think doing coq10 at least a month or so if you want to delay cycling can't hurt and might help. I don't get why your re thinks you have a low afc. It is almost 10. That's pretty decent.
Thank you so much for your input. I guess next month, I'll probably just go for it but it really sucks cause if it happened, it'd be 3 days before P bday. Too much money for 2 kids, a mom, brother in law bday and Xmas. Can you say debt? Lol
