Hi ladies - just found out I got a 156 on my 1 hr GD test kinda freaking out here.
I'm in total shock as my OB felt like I'd have no trouble passing it. I already eat super healthy and exercise 3-4 times a week. I've only gained 13 lbs so far being pregnant (27w).
Before the 1 hr test that morning I had 2 pieces of whole wheat toast as that's what my OB told me to have. Do I have any hope of passing the 3 hr next week? Anything I should do? I know I have to fast after midnight for that one with nothing except water.
I think it can go either way at this point. Just know that there's nothing you did that could cause gestational diabetes, including toast the morning of the 1 hr test:) The placenta is blocking your ability to use insulin and your insulin needs go up 2-3 times by third trimester. The fittest and healthiest of women can get gestational diabetes, it just happens.
Just fast like they said and bring some snacks with you to eat right after the test because your blood sugar may plummet after 3 hrs if you aren't used to a bunch of sugar in your diet.
I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with gestational diabetes. I've been managing it with diet so far. It's not that bad and it is short term...once baby is born and the placenta is gone, your body goes back to pretty much normal in a matter of hours.
I bombed the 1 hr test as well and go in for my 3hr next week. There's nothing you can really do to help/change the outcome. As IFinTN mentioned, GD doesn't necessarily have to deal with how you eat/exercise. I did some research and there a lot of women that came back with a failed 1 hr result that passed the 3hr, so I'd try not to worry about it too much. If you do end up failing the 3hr (I have a feeling I will due to my pcos and the fact that I was borderline IR before), it can be managed and won't last forever.

I took it this morning and made it without passing out or throwing up! I didn't know they'd let me have water while I waited so that was great... Without that I may have had to lie down. Now I just have to wait a couple days for the results.

Just keep in mind that the 1hr is a screening test. There are a lot more positive 1hr GCTs than actual Gestational Diabetes diagnoses.
For anyone else taking the 1hr- eat a reasonable breakfast focused on protein before your test. No toast. No cereal. No orange juice.
Some providers may tell you to carb load before the test- but the juice you will drink for the test is equivalent to over 20oz of Coke. Loading more carbs on top of that is asking for an elevated 1hr & extra testing.
The 3hr test (GTT) is what we actually use to diagnose Gestational Diabetes. And yup, a nice protein lunch after that sucker is a really good idea.
Most ladies diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes will be managed by using diet/nutrition.
*You can also always ask for a Zofran tab or an equivalent anti-nausea medication to take before either test (1 or 3hr) if you don't already have a prescription. **Get the prescription before your test, it will not be hand where you take your test!

Yes hearthands I've learned that never again will I eat toast before the test even if my OB says it's okay. I should have just had some almonds. Also glad to hear many don't pass the 1 hr... that was something that was never explained to me and I just expected to pass it no problem.
Thanks for all the good wishes and FX! Hoping jessimi06 and I have good news to report at the end of the week!
turquoisequeen, I hope you get better news than I did. The OB office just called and I failed 2 out of 4 of the tests. They said I just barely failed the 2 tests, but that I officially have GD now. I meet with the nutritionist in a week, but they seem to think I'll be just fine with watching my sugar/carb intake.

No more grape juice for me!
It is not so bad to be on the diet. I have been doing it 2 weeks and I am actually eating more than I was before, just very controlled carb portions. And yes, no juice!!
