I need help with solid food stuff again

My kid is one of those who doesn't eat. He throws everything on the floor. Well I got lazy and started taking him out of his high chair before cleaning the food off the floor and he immediately crawled over and started eating. So I put a new meal on the coffee table and he stood there and ate everything.

Does this mean I have a high chair problem and not an eating issue? Do I ditch my high chair? What's my alternative here? WWN13D?

I'm another in the "do whatever it takes to get him to eat" camp. I'd still sit him in his high chair for family meals, but maybe be willing to compromise and let him eat elsewhere for awhile?

Sorry you're dealing with this! We started having this problem about a week or so ago. V will only eat if MH or I hold her in our lap. I'm also in camp do whatever works.

Thanks guys. I'm glad some of you are in the "whatever works" club with me. I use a stand alone high chair and I'm going to look at one that goes on a chair.

I'm pretty upset that it took me 8 months to realize my kid hates his high chair. Mom fail, epic mom fail.

I'm in camp whatever works. Food first, manners second.

Hadley is starting to resist the high chair as well. We have a small kids table in the kitchen (from Ikea, cannot link at work) that we have started to introduce select meals at. So she sits in a Hadley-sized chair and eats food from a Hadley-sized table and gets a big kick out of it. It's the messiest thing ever but whatever, it keeps the peace and I convince myself it is helping to teach her table manners.

Maybe he would like a booster at the table? My LO just did great over the weekend sitting in a booth with me at a restaurant. I was very impressed.

I agree with the whatever works. We always start breakfast and dinner in my chair, and nine out of 10 times we are able to finish there, but I'm not opposed to making a Tupperware container of food and feeding her as she plays.

We do lunch on the run, always-- smoothies, a handful of crackers, and some diced veggies or fruit.

kfran84 we recently used a booster at a friend's house and B seemed to like it a lot. Like you, I was happy that he was happy! It had a strap, which helped. The one time we tried it a restaurant, there was no restraint and it just didn't work well--that one was definitely meant for older kids.

TLDR: calishove if you look for a booster seat, definitely look for one with a strap!

Also in camp whatever works. Saturday Max and I shared Chipotle leftovers on the couch, by shared I mean, he let me get a few bites in. I can't get him to eat half of what I make, but he will devour some barbacoa.

We recently tried a booster at a restuarant, it went pretty well, except that the booster didn't have strap. Once he realized he wasn't strapped down he kept trying to stand up, and of course the booth was too tall for him to eat while in a high chair.

Camp "Whatever Works" is a large camp! I'm in it too!
Sometimes L wants to be fed and sometimes feed herself... Sometimes she's done in the chair but will eat off of my oatmeal once she's down...
I feed her anything and everything she will eat because she's not very big (honestly not even sure she's 20lb yet )

I have no advice for the refusing to eat in the high chair problem, but I can solve the no strap in the booster seat at a restaurant issue for everyone: use your belt or that belonging to someone with you to connect baby to the chair that the booster is on. We went to a restaurant and they presented this as the way to do it, I was skeptical, but by the end of the meal I was sold. Obviously don't leave them unattended while in this configuration but it's better than no restraint at all.

Also, no one has mentioned it but it needs to be considered- since most of the littles are not the steadiest walkers- i would be very cautious about meals while walking, I see that as a choking hazard. Not that I haven't done it myself, but I watch her like a hawk as she eats, as I'm sure you are too! But just had to mention it for safety's sake!

I'm with everybody else on trying a booster at the table. We learned that L prefers the booster over a highchair while eating out.

Please educate me if I'm wrong but I always felt that if they're hungry they will eat, if not they won't.

I always give her dinner, if she she's hungry she'll eat it all and ask for more, if not, she just throws it at the dog.. If I know she's eaten pretty good throughout the day, I don't make a fuss about it.
Is there's something I dont know about toddler eating habits?
