I'm so glad you said something and that she listened and was open to hearing you out. So many people listen to their pedi's but they're doctors, not car seat techs. It makes me upset that they even give advice like that.
My story, my brother is dating a woman with a six year old and she didn't have the girl in a seat at all.I sent her links to sites with info on how she should be in a booster, etc. She was not super receptive but must have read through what I sent because she ended up getting her a seat. Yay!

It's not douchey when you are trying to protect a child from a real, proven danger that is preventable by a pediatrician recommended, law requiring set of guidelines. Period.
I just don't understand why people don't do this. If someone told me something was safer for my son and it seemed legit, I would do it immediately. Why do people get defensive
Glad she heard you out! It's amazing what people don't know, that we all assume is a basic thing... I will admit I would have a hard time telling someone they are doing it wrong... So I know it took a lot for ypu to speak up. So I think that's awesome!
I'm really glad you said something and that she listened!
I'm amazed too that people don't know better. I have a friend who recently told me that she turned her car seat around at a year because her son "wanted to look around." She's generally super responsible so I was shocked. Her LO is 2.5 now so there was no point in saying anything. But how do people not know this info by now?
That's awesome you spoke it! I'm glad she listened! I agree that sometimes it's a little awkward to tell someone safety advice for their child but in my mind I'd rather risk them getting upset thinking I was being douchey or whatever versus me shutting my mouth and regretting it if something happened. Someone has to educate uninformed and/or miseducated mommas and if they think you're an asshole for it, so be it. Doing the right thing is a 100x better to me.

My 3 yr old nephew should still be rear facing IMO since he's only like 27 lbs but it's like talking to a wall. He's been FF since one and they just say well they told us we could turn him at one. He was nowhere near 20 lbs at one which is usually the FF requirement.
If I'd known then what I know now I'd have tried to talk them out of it.
My sister and BIl are impossible. My niece and nephew are 5 and 7. They don't use boosters or anything with them saying that there is no law saying that they have to. I don't care about the law, it's a matter of safety. My mom keeps extra boosters at her house so we can use them in our cars when they visit. We have tried to explain to them many times but they don't want to use the boosters. It makes me sad because I feel like I am just waiting for them to get hurt. :-(
I just don't understand how when presented with information to show how unsafe it is to be in the wrong seat to soon, to FF to soon, to have a puffy coat, whatever it is, people still don't accept it?! It's not opinion and the time to be stubborn is not when your child's safety is at stake. Sorry, end rant.
I get side eyed looked at DC when I drop off X because he's always in a fleece and hat and not a big winter coat. Like the other parents look at me like i'm a bad mom for not having a coat on him. Drives me crazy.

I just got paperwork from my pedi about ds (3yo) needing to be in a car seat until around 3 or 4. I was shocked. Thanks but she's going to be in a seat for a long time... Seriously some education needs to be done in this area.
Does anyone follow Baby Sideburns on FB? Her one car seat post recently went nuts. She posted a picture of her son in a car seat that he clearly had outgrown height wise AND he was wearing a thick coat and she said she basically knows it's unsafe but it's negative a billion degrees outside or some crap. What an idiot.
Michigan senate passed a bill changing the law to rear facing until 2; it just needs to go through the house. I am glad there will be that legal back up if I have to bring it up to someone.
