I tried this with DS & he seemed to enjoy it in the womb. I would play a variety of classical songs from Mozart & Beethoven. When he was born if he was fussy and I played the music he would settle down almost instantly. He was like that for the first three months.

This baby will hear the songs I sing to DS, so she/he will likely hear baby beluga, bushel and a peck, and au clair de la lune. With DS, I sang a couple songs, but I also read a lot of Dr Seuss to him, which is very rhythmic and melodic. I don't know how much of an effect it had, but it's a nice way to bond with the baby!
I was really into a Neil Young phase when I was pregnant with my first, and playing it after she was born definitely calmed her down. It was pretty crazy!

I played "To Whom It May Concern" by The Civil Wars to DD on repeat, and she still loves that song.
However, I will say this: make a list of songs you want to remember to sing to LO. Because at 2am, the only songs in your head will be television jingles or weird songs. DD got a lot of Oscar Mayer, Nationwide is on your side, and Amazing Grace. A LOT.

haha. My go-tos were Twinkle Twinkle and the ABCs. LOL. Both the same tune of course.

I sing a crapton of Disney songs on a daily basis because they keep me cheerful. I'm probably brainwashing my baby into being a Disney kid already haha.
With DS I actually hated listening to a lot of music. I was in that stage where I was sick of my Ipod music, Country music got on my nerves because I was sick of the overplayed songs that had the main theme to "get the chick drunk and sleep with her". And Rock music was on my nerves too. So I really didn't listen to a whole lot of music that I liked. But DS would calm down in a heartbeat to most video game theme songs. Yes, I am a video game nerd, it was like classical music with a twist to me lol. I may or may not do that with this one but DS tends to have the music under control with his Jake CD.. Oiyee..

SO is writing a song for the baby so I will be playing that over and over. We basically play vinyls in our house all day long. SO is partial to Foo Fighters and insists to play them all the time. I definitely want to be jamming my Bob Marley record because well, it's pretty chill music and I think baby will like it!
in prenatal yoga with DD the class always ended with "The Long Time Sun" which is a sweet song. Once DD was born I took her a few times to Baby and Me yoga where we would play the song at the end also & she instantly would take to it by kind of lighting up in a way like "oooo that is familiar, i know that!" this reminds me that it has been a very long time since playing it for her

This is really interesting, I hadn't thought of playing a specific song(s) that could help baby calm down or be happy after being born. I think I might hate the song if I played it all of the time, so maybe I should try a particular artist or genre. I really like Carla Morrison, and that could help baby get used to hearing Spanish even though I don't speak it most of the time.

With my niece my sister would play Mozart to her in the womb. When she was an infant she would scream bloody murder in the car (while rear facing). The only way to calm her down was to sing the melody to the Mozart music. Very entertaining hearing a bunch of adults/teens singing "do do do do doot, do do do do doot.." (Piano Sonato No. 11)
lukyduky7 I love that song, we sing it at the end of every yoga session where I go as well, so baby is getting plenty of it so far I'll be doing both prenatal yoga and then mother and baby yoga, so it's going to be really interesting to see how the baby reacts to that song and all the chanting that is in yoga.
That's so great! Are you in Southern California by chance? I have not signed up at the yoga place for this pregnancy yet but leaning towards it, loved my instructor so much. The chanting freaked out my daughter!! It was actually kind of funny. The chanting started, she looked around all concerned, then proceeded to scream. Other babies did great with it!
I have one of those womb song thingies. I will start using it in the next week or so. I have a Nirvana Rock A Bye Baby CD that I downloaded onto my ipod that I like to listen too. My MIL also gave me a bunch of classical music to play to the baby. I didn't have a specific song that I concentrated on, but playing the Nirvana CD would always calm her down. And if you haven't heard of Rock A Bye Baby Check it out, so much fun and awesome gifts to give that are always unexpected!
I read this book too! It is similar to the original Seuss book, but different wording. There are youtube videos of brand new babies turning their heads to hear whomever is reading the book! link
I had to google this...at first I thought it meant Nirvana - like meditation Nirvana...had a giggle when a YouTube of Smells Like Teen Spirit popped up! I get it now
I've done this with each of my children. Actually, I pick one prenatally and another at birth. My daughter is at the age where she wants to hear about when she was a baby, so now is when she likes hearing that second song.
DD was born when it was snowing so I chose I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm. I listened to it a lot in those early weeks.
DS was born at like 5am. By 8, we were settled in our room and DH was passed out and I had the tv on. Willy Wonka came on and I burst into tears at the line, "suddenly half the world is mine; what an amazing thing!" So Golden Ticket is his song. Oh lord, I'm crying now!
For this pregnancy, I've chosen Kentucky Babe. I love any song I can easily sing without the cd.
mffrll i was thinking maybe we had the same yoga teacher mine is hooked on that song i guess she sang it all the time to her now 8 year old so she likes to use it in class! i think during pregnancy everything about yoga is the BEST. and the chanting helps during labor too to just find a phrase and go with it. same with kundilini type yoga exercises. just when baby was on outside world she got freaked out by the chanting

So I watched Tarzan shortly before I found out I was pregnant and I fell in love with the song Kala sings to Tarzan. I guess is called "You'll be in my heart" It is SUCH a beautiful song. Definitely going to be Baby Bears' lullaby
I am always singing along to The Beatles. I hope the little guy or girl will enjoy it as much as I do.
Me too! That's probably a big reason I chose the name Jude. Idk if singing "Hey Jude" to my LO would be weird and too obvious though. I also sing a lot of Pink Floyd's The Wall. I think I need some new songs for baby!

DH is making a Playlist for me to play for baby, but he also sings "you are my sunshine" to my belly every day that I'm home. He has always sang it to me, and yes, i think it's funny that such a sad song is a "lullaby"

I played all sorts of music when I was pregnant with DS. I would sing along in the shower and in the car. He has loved music from the day he was born. When he's screaming in the car most of the time I can turn up the radio and he quiets down. During Christmas I sing Christmas songs to him and he typically drifts right off to sleep.
He loves when I play music on my phone and one of his favorite toys is a Fisher Price record player.
