I have been stuffing my alvas with infant prefolds, but they just aren't cutting it anymore and I need bigger ones I guess. The alvas still work great when double stuffed with bamboo inserts but I don't have enough so I thought bigger prefolds would be the best option (since I use covers too). Any opinions on where to buy? Or what is the best value?
I would say red edge GMD too. Or maybe get/make some hemp doublers that you can stuff with the prefolds you do have. Hemp Babies are cheap and really absorbent.
I have an add on question about this. We currently trifold yellow edge GMD in pockets (and covers). We're also on the middle rise snap. We're no where near maxing out absorbency, but I could see wanting red edge for comfort for being unsnapped all the way (less PUL touching skin in covers). But a pad folded flat is the same size as a trifolded small GMD prefold, right? I fold the flat in quarters and then threes. Do people fold flats differently for larger snap settings? If not, is there any reason I couldn't just keep using the yellows? Or should I expect that my moderate/light wetter will become a heavier wetter as she gets older?

I have the rise all the way unsnapped on a few of our diapers (hello 95% height baby). I fold my flats as follows for both settings: in half width-wise (in school they called this a hamburger fold vs. long ways was a hot dog fold), then in thirds to make long strip, then in half to make the pad. I pretty much leave it like that for mid-rise covers. For other covers I just don't fold it all the way in half on the last step so its a little longer and leave the non-doubled section in the back of the cover for more absorbency in the front. If that doesn't make sense I'll take pictures.

If you don't mind the PUL touching skin, and she's not out-wetting the yellows I see no reason to buy red. I still pad fold my flats the same way, but I use mostly larges. Larges actually fit perfectly with rise all the way undone and folded as you described.
