paint question! (somewhat SS)

For all of you that have been painting the nursery... does that mean you, yourselves were actively painting? My DH wants me to help him with doors/trim (which I can generally avoid fucking up.) Then this past weekend I got an email from the Dump saying that paint is a "household danger" and you shouldn't even be in a freshly painted room for two days. Is it true that latex household paint is less toxic than some others?

I figured I would just keep the window open and take breaks. What say you, ladies?

I helped my DH paint....make sure you get low VOC paint (most of them are these days) and keep the door open and fan on. A window open would also be good! You should be fine to help (if you want to;))

I did the painting myself this last weekend. Valspar brand latex paint. It's pregnancy safe but you may want to open a window, depending on your own comfort level.

I painted DD#2 room myself when I was around 30+ weeks. It was spring so I opened all windows and it was fine.

This! We had the ceiling fan on and the window open for a few days after also to air out the room.

Thanks everyone! That's what I figured, but I appreciate the feedback. We haven't bought the paint yet, so I will research if a pregnancy safe one is available (we usually get behr.)

Yes, low VOC paint! Most these days are safe, but I usually try a fan or open window just for the smell. Obviously if this was 50 years ago and we all used lead paint, it would be more of an issue. Get with the times TB!

I wouldn't be worried, it's fine to paint the room. Like most things, just be smart about it and use common sense. Don't shut yourself in there for 2 days straight with no ventilation and try not to lean over the can and huff the paint. You'll be good.

We didn't paint the nursery, but I did my son's room a couple weeks ago. We used Behr for him and all their paints are either low/no VOC.

We are finishing our basement and I plan to paint it all. Slowly over time though. Hoping to get a lot of it done before the baby comes.

Funny this question should pop up this morning; we have painters coming by to redo most of our interior today!

I painted a small bathroom last night by myself, couldn't smell much of anything, and didn't feel lightheaded at all. I would feel comfortable painting everything myself if it weren't such a huge job/pain in the ass. (We're getting multiple rooms, doors, hallways, baseboards, banisters etc. painted. There was no way my body or my schedule would tolerate that.)

Also, FWIW, I've used Valspar, Glidden, Behr, and SW over the past couple of years in various rooms in our house. Behr (Home Depot) and SW have been my favorites in terms of color quality and coverage. Happy painting, ladies!

I helped with the painting of DD's room before she was born and we used low VOC Behr paint.  The only reason why I didn't help this time was because I had to watch DD who wanted to run into the baby's room every chance she could get.

I helped DH paint the livingroom/kitchen and the nursery. He did most of it but I did the lower cutting in and around the windows and such. We had the windows all open and it didn't smell like paint to me within a couple of hours of being done.
