Will You or Do You Dress Them the Same?

SassyPants150 got me thinking about FAQs.  This one used to come up a lot.  Will you dress your twins the same?  

When I was pregnant I was adamant that I would not dress them the same because I wanted them to be their own person.  I told my mom that I wouldn't change my mind.  Well then they were born and I changed my mind just like my mom said I would.  I do enjoy dressing them in similar outfits, or the same outfit but different colors.  I think they like it too and it definitely hasn't stopped them from being their own person!

What about you? Will you or do you dress you LOs the same?  And with this post I'm no longer a noob.  Woot!!!

It's always been funny to me how so many people have an opinion on how I should dress my twins. When my sister dresses her girls (16 months apart) alike, no one bats an eye, but I'm somehow scarring my boys for life and not allowing them to be separate people. ::eye roll::

I pretty much always dress my boys in matching or coordinating outfits. My preference is same style, different color. It's cute and it makes my life a little easier. I will continue to do so until they're old enough to have their own opinions about what they wear. Even then, I'll probably still buy them similar clothes so they have the option match if they want to, but I'll only force it for special occasions.

My guys are definitely two very different little people.

I am sure that I will coordinate outfits at times. I have a beautiful wardrobe to pass down from DD and a whole bunch of boy clothes that were passed down from a friend (although a lot are NMS). That should keep some of my spending at bay at least.

I rarely dress mine the same, but I do coordinate outfits a lot (things that are around the same tone, design, or color scheme).

I can't imagine matching outfits all the time, I think it would be really expensive. I buy mostly from consignment stores, so you're less likely to find two of the same. My girls also wear a lot of DS's hand me downs.

Another thing is that my girls are often in different sizes (DD2 is almost 3lb and maybe 2in bigger), so there would be a lot of outfit overlap. I do feel like they are their own person, and since I wouldn't dress siblings the same it feels silly to dress them the same- but I do it anyway sometimes because it's really cute

To be honest I am most excited to find matching outfits for big sis and little sis to wear. My twins will be b/g and I don't have any desire to make them match. Or even have big bro and lil bro match. Something about sisters.....

I did when they were first born, but they would be in certain colors. I did this mainly so others could tell them apart- Baby A in Blue, Baby B in Green. If I had them in completely different things everyone would ask who they were. So I tried to match them in certain colors to avoid the questions all of the time.

Now that people can tell them apart, I stock up on Old Navy clothes, because I find them to be a lot cheaper. Nothing is ever the same, they do somewhat match, but it isn't on purpose. I just have so much from Old Navy that if they wear long sleeves, they are those waffle tops.

Mine are b/g so the matching hasn't been an issue for me really when they were young. I shop mostly sales so it's hard to find coordinating outfits for everyday stuff. I did receive a bunch of coordinating outfits when they were babies, but most of the time, one would spit up on their outfit and need a change before we got anywhere so I gave up trying to coordinate. Now at 3.5 though, they will go through their clothes and ask each other if they want to match. DS was sad the other day because he didn't have any pink pants to match DD's leggings...

My mom was adamant about not buying my sister(3 years younger) and I matching outfits because she figured by the time my sister outgrew her clothes, she'd be tired of wearing that outfit and then wouldn't want to wear my hand me downs.

My step-daughter has implored me not to do it, haha. It's looking like a boy/girl combo for us so less relevant, but I can see getting them things like similar raincoats and whatnot when they're very young. I have no problems with women dressing twins alike, but if it's identical twins and identical outfits, I just think that's potentially confusing for people who can't tell them apart. But really, it doesn't matter. I don't think kids start to use the way they dress to identify themselves or their personalities until their tweens anyway.

Our twins are B/G but I haven't really thought of dressing our LO and her younger sister alike. Maybe coordinated but not alike.

I will probably dress them alike, but obviously not all the time... and when I do, they may be matching outfits but
different colors. I really do think its adorable when I see twins dressed alike.... my mom used to dress my sister
and I alike a lot... we are 2 years apart. Me being the "older" sister, I don't ever remember feeling out of sorts about it!

I'll probably dress them in coordinating outfits, especially for photos/holidays. With having B/G twins I don't think I'll put them in the same outfits; but I doubt I would even if I were having same sex twins.

Ha!  E is always blue and L is always green when we give them cups, spoons and toys!  L is always left and E is always right if they have to have something the same otherwise I would never keep it straight.

I agree about dressing to identify in the Tweens.  My DD is 11 and barely taking and interest in her outfits.

I don't dress them alike or even coordinating really. I have all boys, so the big one passed down all his clothes, obvi, but we did need some additional. We have some coordinating things but I don't dress them coordinating on purpose.

We've been gifted a few matching items and those get wear but matching is not my choice.

I just don't really care all that much about clothes. My 5yo picks out his own outfits and I don't care at all if they match or not.

I have b/g twins. I do try coordinate for special occasions or I try and match ds1 to my boy twin. Matching outfits are expensive though and we have a lot of hand me downs.

I think this is a never say never situation for me. I like to say now that I'm not going to match them at all but I'm sure once they're here I'll be drooling all over the matching/coordinating cuteness.

I am expecting b/g twins and I already have a lot of girls stuff from DD. I also received some boys hand-me-downs. With things I am buying new, I really like unisex things that coordinate (like onesies that come in multi-packs for example) but I'm not trying too hard. I can see how if I was having same sex twins and buying everything from scratch it might be easier to just buy two of everything.

This is a good point. On the rare occasions I buy something new, if I see two of them in a size they're going in I do tend to buy one for both, rather than just buy one for them to share. Sometimes they'll have something in the same style but different color or same color with a slightly different style, but most of the time they don't. At this point, I dress them in a way I like. Once they get older they may have a preference (DS is 3 and already getting opinionated regarding shirts) but right now it's things I like.

I also tend to dress them in certain colors: DD2 in purples and DD1 in blues. It's not a strict rule, but one I often find myself doing.

Mine are g/g and tend to go more "co-ordinating" than same. We have so many hand-me-downs, and not many came together in sets, so I get creative and expand my definition of "co-ordinating." I do a lot of same color scheme but different clothes or similar outfit in different colors. I have a couple of things that are absolutely identical (and they were almost all gifts), and I feel funny making them matchy matchy (mostly because I don't think they LOOK identical). And for the most part, if I have it available, Audrey is in purple and Margot is in pink.

I always swore we'd push for not identical things with our ID girls, but now they've hit an age where identical stuff means fewer toddler meltdowns over who gets what. I'm sure we'll go back to less identical outfits once they're past this stage though. I really only did it for holiday type outfits before.

I don't know yet what we're having (b/g? b/b? g/g?) but I don't see myself putting them in identical clothing, regardless if they are the same sex or not (unless we're talking a plain white onsie and we're home all day lol). Similar styles or colours yes. But that will probably be more for family get-togethers or for pictures and things like that. If we have two babes of the same sex, we might try and stick to a particular colour for each, especially if they look a like (I know they aren't identical but I'm guessing it can still get confusing??)

Dh and I said no but people got some matching outfits and instead of returning I said whatever. But don't plan to do it often and in the house I don't care so much.
