Because I needed somewhere to update you all on my sleep training with DD!
Well, we just finished up night #3 last night and we have had some success. (I'm going to knock on wood while typing this entire post)
Night #1 started out really strange. Here's why, we put DD down and she babbled to herself for like 15-20 minutes. Then, silence. Looked at the monitor and she was asleep after 30 minutes of putting her in her crib. No crying at all. I thought to myself, man, this is going to be easier than I thought! Then, an hour later happened. And she was awake in her crib crying. And the crying lasted like an hour and 45 minutes. We of course did our checks at the appropriate intervals (it was night #1 so it was 3 mins, 5 mins then 10 mins there after). On the check at 11:47, I decided to feed her because she usually liked to eat around midnight when she was in bed with me. Put her back down after feeding her. She fussed a couple of times and kicked around a bit but was asleep by 12:28am. Had 2 more checks after that then she was back asleep, then a check and feed at 3:53am. She went right back to sleep after that. She woke at 6:50am, fussed for 6 minutes then went back to sleep. She woke up for the day at 8:11am.
Aside from the 1hr 45min crying/checks, we were happy with the results. Especially for getting to sleep until 8:11am!
Night #2 started with about 45 minutes of crying and checks and she had put herself to sleep by 8:08pm. Crying check at 9:37pm then back to sleep by 9:47pm. Awake at 10:39pm, crying check at 10:52pm, asleep by 10:57pm. Wake at 11:16pm, crying check and feed at 11:22pm then back to sleep until 6:31am! Crying check and feed at 6:43am. Back to sleep and then awake for the day at 8:08am.
Again, we called this a success because the crying time and checks were reduced dramatically!
Night #3 We laid her down drowsy but awake at 7:22pm. Crying check at 7:34pm and she was asleep by 7:52pm. Then, something miraculous happened...she didn't wake up again until 5:17am! Now, one might think that I had a great night's sleep because I wasn't being awakened every hour or 2 by DD. Nope, I was up every 2 hours staring at the monitor making sure she was still breathing! LOL! When she woke up at 5:17am, I went in and fed her, laid her back down and she was back asleep by 5:29am with no crying. I woke her back up at 6:30am because this is the time we get her up to get ready for the sitter.
Obviously, night #3 was a success. She has never slept that long of a stretch! It was amazing. I was so proud of her in the morning. Especially with again the reduced time it took her to put herself to sleep. We were down to about 30 minutes. Now, I'm not holding my breath and again, I'm knocking on wood hoping it wasn't a fluke. I'm already feeling like a believer and that it's working. We will see how night #4 goes tonight!
In the meantime, I need some advice for those of you who breastfeed and have babies who STTN. So, by the time DD woke up at 5:17am, my boobs were engorged. In fact, when I woke myself up at 5am I was secretly praying she'd wake up (what?! no) to feed because I needed some relief. So, with that being said...will be milk figure this out on it's own? Should I wake up to pump sometime in the MOTN if she continues to STTN? What can I do to help the issue?! I don't want my supply to take a huge hit. Advice is greatly appreciated!
