I have a question for STMs if they have any advice for a toddler who gets constipated. Do you have any favorite go to meals and snacks that favor a healthy diet? The doctor emphasized to us to make sure he is drinking plenty of water and juice but didn't specify foods to encourage eating vs. to avoid besides telling us to lay off white bread and bananas.
DS just turned 2 and in the past few weeks he has had some painful poop episodes:(
Stay away from cheese! And some dairy. It happened really bad for my DS when we switched from formula to regular milk. Bad enough that I had to mix a little miralax in with juice. That definitely helped though.

Our doctor is having us mix the miralax with juice first just to get him unclogged and then we are going to fix his diet. He does eat a lot of cheese:( Thank you for everyone's great advise!

I feel your pain on this... DS has had a lot of constipation issues (he will be 2 in June). Some food ideas: Very ripe bananas actually can help constipation (unripe will cause it... it's something about the way it breaks down as it ripens, but I can't recall exactly what)... Sweet potatoes can help, also black beans. A big thing that helped for us aside from diet, was adding probiotics to his daily milk intake. That has made the most difference for us. Good luck!!

I like @jemomma 's suggestion of applesauce- they have it in lots of fun flavors, or Apple juice. There are probiotic packets to put in a kids drink, also probiotic gummies.
I also found that if I have to get things moving, I'd give DD oranges. They seem to clear her out pretty good. Just be careful of how many you give (DD loves Mandarin oranges) as they can also give a bad diaper rash if eaten too much.
Healthy: apples/juice, tangerines, raisins, yogurt (I know you're supposed to avoid dairy but we give him activia) Not healthy but works within 24 hrs: a happy meal - he will usually go 2-3 times the day after he eats one of those. Obviously not an everyday prevent constipation kind of thing but it totally works
Yogurt and Kiefer on the regular will help keep them regular my son loves frozen blueberries in his yogurt-also great for digestion! Obviously fruits but also veggies and legumes. If you have a picky eater, you can try bean and/or veggie soups. Fresh is best, but canned works too!

What kind of probiotics?
I like to use Garden of Life Raw Probiotics for Kids, but I know a lot of people have used Culturelle Probiotics which I believe are available at Target.
Prunes, plums, pears, yogurt (stir in some additional probiotics) and, when all else fails, a juice box of pear juice. But tread lightly with that last one
I see it's been mentioned, but we have also had luck with probiotics. We use culturelle, which you can pick up just about anywhere in the pharmacy section.

We do apple sauce/apple juice. If it gets really bad there is this concentrated prune juice stuff we get from our whole foods store in the medicine/herbal section. We put a little of that into his apple juice. Also we cut back on bananas and cheese. But we have the problem of him getting constipated, then finally going and then having loose stools the next day. So day one no poop, day two one big poop, day 3 nasty poop day, then back to day one.
