I had my first OB appt (for this pregnancy) today with my doc. I think it's incredibly early for an appt, but he had an opening at my preferred location, so I took it. He walked in with a huge smile on his face and congratulated me. Then he proceeded to tell how wonderful it is to have children close in age and how much fun our family has in front of us. He even shared a story about his two youngest (he has 4 all less than 2 years apart each). This was such a relief from what we hear often about having kids close together being crazy, difficult and weird.
This is such a stark departure from my previous OB who:
If you have an OB that you don't connect with or doesn't seem to listen to you, get out. There are better options. I left my previous OB and tried another in his office. When I still got bad vibes, I switched practices. I was in third tri and it was scary, but it was the best possible decision. Pregnancy is scary enough, find a health care provider that makes it feel as good possible. You deserve it.
Today was a good day. I am so grateful to have found my current doctor.
The nurse even set up a dating ultrasound in a few weeks (before I got the chance to ask) because they are knowledgeable on my file and know I have had a previous loss. I swear I wanted to hug them both. It's like they are on my side. Isn't that wonderful?!
This is such a stark departure from my previous OB who:
- Did not want to see me until after 8 weeks
- Told me not to seek medical attention or answers as to why I was bleeding and cramping while traveling before my 8w appt
- Questioned why I assumed I did not have a healthy pregnancy (he had neglected to read my hospital medical records confirming m/c via ultrasound and subsequent dramatically dropping Beta levels before opening his mouth)
- Was generally a heartless bastard at my m/c follow up appt, to the extent that my husband was stunned into silence
