Hi ladies - THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your happy thoughts and T&P. they really meant a lot and gave me some support that I didn't even really knew I needed. they must have worked because we've been put on long-term observation.
Here's the brief background. at my 20w AS, they found a white spot between the stomach/liver. so i had a follow up AS 6 weeks later which was last friday. I was 25w6 days. they checked the white spot and it has not changed and the OB is not worried. however, they realized that the baby was not growing on track and was behind. there is also an issue with the blood flow regarding the umbilical cord so they set up weekly follow-ups for the next 2 weeks. i had my follow-up umbilical doppler yesterday and the blood flow got worse so they immediately admitted me to the hospital for "observation" and possible emergency delivery. FORTUNATELY - he (i think we're going to name him Elliott) did really really well and they are finally moving me out of labor & delivery to the high risk floor some time today. my first weekly follow-up was yesterday (Fri).
yesterday was a lot of scary scenarios (i.e. we could deliver right away or by sat or by sun) but today is a bit more optimistic - they want to get me to 34 weeks, all while in the hospital for constant monitoring - that's up to 7 more weeks of observation and basically bordeom. i will be stuck in the hospital the whole time. THey will check Elliott's HB 3x a day and US checks 2x a week - of course they may add or less but that's the current plan - oh yeah and i FAILED my 1hr glucose so my blood sugar is also gettng checked after every meal
so, so long as Elliott stays the same, he will be delivered the first Sat in Maybut...of course the situation can change at any time - i will probably have a C-section bc they don't want the stress of labor on Elliott
the doctors have reassured me muiltiple times, and i still need to hear, that it was not my fault. nothing i ate, did, work, stress, activity, not even my history of BP contributed to this. my placenta did not attach efficiently so it's not getting all the nutrients to Elliott. i guess it makes me feel better..but not really. i'm planning on doing some status memos for work (the life of an attorney) and then prepare for my fight with my firm about short term disability + FMLA/maternity leave + trying to get some of my bonus money...
finally, i think i'm going to start a blog bc we are all hoping i'm here for THE LONG RUN - 7 weeks from today...so i'll probably post things here and there on this page. and for those who are interested, i'll post the link to the blog once i have it set up.
i think i've been able to prepare for this because of the unfortunate recent losses to our June15 boards as well as ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT. also, i did the evil google search after last Friday's appt which helped get a lot of the freaking out out of the way and helped me absorb the info from the past day or two. thank you to all of the women who have shared their ordeals, sadness and happiness with all of us.
THANKS AGAIN!!
