I generally nurse him from both sides but when he wakes up in the morning he usually just feeds from one side and falls back to sleep then the other side about 2 hours later.

I think baby size and amount of bm you produce would determine how much he needs to feed. Since I pump for daycare I know my right boob produces twice as much as the left. This past week at daycare he's been taking double the amount bm as before. Now he's not satisfied with just nursing on one side. And if he does only feed on one side (esp if its the left) he usually wants to eat again pretty soon after. My lo is 14 weeks and 16 lbs.
I have 4 little bears, just like my name says. 2 girls 2 boys ages 8,5,3, and my newest babe. 2 of my little bears have life threatening food allergies, feel free to ask me more about that!
I offer both but he doesn't always take the second one. Sometimes he only feeds for a little while on the second side. Other times it seems like he is never satisfied so I nurse for more then an hour and just switched once my nips get tired
I do both because I have low supply, but we do side-lying nursing and co-sleeping at night, so sometimes he'll do one side and then sleep for a few hours before wanting the other side.
Thanks for the replies! We've been doing just one side at a time but the past couple of days he's been nursing for only a short time and then getting frustrated. I don't know if he's done and wanting the other side or if he's just suddenly very efficient and mad because I keep trying to feed him. He's still having plenty of wet/dirty diapers. Trial and error, I suppose. And it's just like him... once I get used to one thing lo goes and switches it up on me.
I've always done one but only because my supply is massive, especially the right side. I've started block feeding a little bit because I believe she's not getting enough hind milk.. I even express the let down a bit because she'll unlatch, bite the nipple, be gassy, and spit up. Oh and has tmi frothy poo.
I want to start pumping for a small stash so dh can feed her but don't know how to do it without further stimulating my supply. I constantly have clogged ducts and am struggling with too much foremilk.
One side now. We used to do both sides, but I was afraid she wasn't getting the hind milk. I only offer the second if she seems still hungry after the first one.
I always off the second breast, he doesn't always take it. I have an aggressive let down though, and if it seems like the first boob was too forceful, I'll skip the second boob. Don't want to cause more gas and fussing.

I'd say we feed every couple hours during the day. I never watch the clock because she's in charge. Sometimes well go 3 or 4 hours but not this last week since she's growing and has a cough.

Usually just one. Unless he's still showing signs of hunger and is fussy at the breast he's been nursing on. He's on the boob whenever he wants. I'm his boob slave.

Every feeding she will take both sides (although my right breast produces more). I alternate which side she starts on. Sometimes it is only a short feed on the second side but sometimes it's a long one. She's a bit of a lazy eater and falls asleep 2-3 times during a feeding. I will burp her and then she wakes up and is still hungry so I finish when she burps and is satisfied.
