This is a weekly thread for runners who are TTC, that is posted on Mondays. All who run--or who want to start running--are welcome, regardless of mileage, pace, ability, size, shape, or terrestrial status. This is a place to talk about running while TTC, training, runs, races, gear, recovery, nutrition, and whatever else we can think of.

How were your runs this week? Lay it on us... I had some great runs this week, all things considered. My calf is still healing, but I got a 2-miler and a 3-miler in. Saw a PT on Thursday who okayed me for 4 miles on Saturday. We're going to continue evaluating distance, and she gave me lots of exercises to do to try to get back to normal. I can tell my fitness is fading though. My 4-miler was much harder on my lungs than it should have been.
GTKY: I run anywhere I can except the treadmill. We have a great greenway system, and I hit the track once a week. I refuse to run on a treadmill, though. I'll deal with rain, snow, wind before I will run indoors.
I hope it's okay if I join this tread? I'm not actively TTC at the moment (waiting for two more cycles/end of May), but I do run! I have a 10K race coming up at the end of the month, and I've been majorly slacking the last few weeks on my runs, so hoping checking in here will help motivate!
Runs this week were: okay. I only got one in, just 3.5 miles, and pace was crazy slow for me. Still, just happy I did it. After traveling/snow/being sick, I realized it had been a month since my last run. Yikes! Luckily, I've still been working out, so my fitness level wasn't totally toast, but as you all know running is so different from anything else that it was still a little rough out there.
GTYK: I run anywhere. I used to only run on treadmills, but now I avoid if at all possible. Mostly I run in my neighborhood and in a local park on an exercise trail and around a couple recreational lakes. (Always with my son in the BOB.)
ironbaby hope you get cleared by your PT soon! Its frustrating when our mind wants to do more than our body!
KatieEl, Of course you're welcome! I am also TTA until May. Good luck on your 10k. Stay on track for your race, and make sure you get some more runs in this week. We'll hold you accountable.
My runs were good! I was actually feeling so powerful that I ran 6 days instead of 5. I have been considering racing again. I haven't done a serious road race since a 10K maybe 7 years ago. I used to sign up for ALL the 5K's, most 10K's and completed 2 marathons in my early 20's. Then grad school took over my life and I got married and had a baby and dropped the intense running. I want to become more competitive with it, but given my recent health problems I don't know how much I should push myself. I will just start with the 5K's and maybe a 10K in the fall.
I finally got some new running shoes and they feel great. I had mostly easy runs. They are fairly consistent, about 2 to 3 miles each morning. I have to set up a training plan so it's not so monotonous.
GTKY: I run in my subdivision. It's so peaceful and hilly.

Hey everyone!!
I did pretty good this week. I conquered 3 miles of treadmill two days and yesterday DH and I did 2.5 miles outside in the nice. It's much much much harder to run on the street than it is on the treadmill so I was kind of bummed yesterday. But I still feel good. 3 months ago I struggled to run a minute straight and now I can do 3 miles.
icequeen, your running resume is impressive. I stay away from 5ks and 10ks. They are an all-out sufferfest to me. I don't like going fast. I'm always impressed by people who can really race them.

Hi everyone! I missed having this thread last week - thanks for starting, ironbaby!
How were your runs this week? Lay it on us... It's finally warmed up and the snow is almost all melted, so I got in 3 runs last week! Only 2-3 miles each, as I'm easing back into running after taking a break from it this winter. I also started to run with our puppy (my avatar pic)! We got her last summer when she was only 2 months old and she's been too young to run with me so far. She is 10 months old now and has finished growing, so I feel okay taking her on runs now... just shorter runs to start and then we can build up our mileage together throughout the spring/summer. She has so much energy and absolutely loves running, and I love having a regular running partner!
GTKY: Where do you run? Treadmill, trails, neighborhood, greenway, etc. Mostly in our neighborhood. I HATE running on treadmills. In the summer when I have to do longer runs for half marathon/marathon training, I run on the local trails because there is no way I'm going to do 4-5 laps of my neighborhood just to get to 12+ miles...

Thanks! Yeah, I ran Division I cross country in college and kept it up for about a year after college. But I'm nowhere near the shape I was in back then, running-wise. I don't think I could ever be in that sort of shape again, haha!
How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...- Well I got up and did them! I'm not checking my distance or time right now. Just trying to get my ass up and move. I have a loop I've been doing every other day for the last two weeks. When I get a little more confident, I'll grab my watch and start checking my times/distance. I've been pretty down lately because I can tell I'm out of shape. I used to run in University/High School, and after I had my boys I ran my first marathon. I was so proud of myself! Now I feel like I can barely run 6 miles- too much jiggle going on. Hopefully I can get back to my old self by mid summer! GTKY: Where do you run? Treadmill, trails, neighborhood, greenway, etc.- Currently it's in my subdivision. Once it gets a little warmer and I get a bit stronger I'll hit some hills/trails
I have recently decided to take up running as my usual exercise routine (yoga, barre, etc) is getting old. Any tips for someone just starting off?
Stick with it. Make a plan, and don't get frustrated. We all have bad runs, but then there is a breakthrough and there is a fantastic run. Vary your routine. And start off easy without too much pressure on yourself. Feel free to walk, run, skip, whatever makes you happy. And definitely, definitely, do some kind of warm up and cool down to avoid injury. I have all kinds of tips and tricks if you want more specifics. I am a running coach, so if you need a plan or an idea of where to start, let me know.
I was sick last week, so no running for me... except for last night. I ran three painful miles and my legs hurt :-( I feel like I lost so much fitness in a week.
GTKY: Sometimes I run on the treadmill. I prefer running outside, but thar be hills out thar (sorry been playing to much Assasin's Creed - Black Flag). I'm hoping to get outside more this week because we are going to have some lovely weather.

I think I've ran twice in the last 2 weeks, maybe 3 times. Today is mid-60s and nice out, so I'm going to get a run in today. Then I'll see how the week goes. Its nicer out now, so I'm hoping to get a few more runs in now that the snow has melted.

I got cleared to workout on Feb 14 and I hit 3 miles on Mar 14. I felt good running it. I am going to get a few more 3 mile runs in before I increase my mileage.
My issue right now is new shoes. I started running in the old shoes, but they are pretty worn. I have to get used to the new shoes because it is causing some pain when I run. I read to slowly work in the new shoes. Any tips?
I usually run outside on a two mile track of sidewalk around the neighborhood. It is pretty popular with runners.
When I break in new shoes I like to wear them for a little bit around the house first, like at night when I'm making dinner or doing things around the house. After a few days then I'll go for a short run, depending on how they feel. If they feel tight or they feel like they need more breaking in then I'll do more short runs vs more. If they feel good after a day or two of short runs, then I'll up my distance, sometimes by a lot. But I've also been running for most of my life, so I can kind of tell which shoes need more breaking in than others. I find that its better to take more time than rush it. I had a friend a couple years ago that tried to accelerate breaking into some thinner soled running shoes. She ran a 1/2 marathon after only having them two weeks. She hurt herself and was laid up for months because of it. So when in doubt, take more time to break them in. If they feel pretty good after a few shorter runs, do a longer run and see how it goes!

Also, where did you get your shoes? I'm a big believer in going to a running store and having them watch me run in shoes. I've had shoes that I could never break in and shoes I've been able to wear on long runs the next day.

Do you have a running store near you? I've had good luck at the stores that video you while you're running on a treadmill. They help you pick out a shoe that's right for your foot.
How were your runs this week? Lay it on us... Eh. I just hired a new coach this week. I did 2.5 miles on my own on Monday because at that point he just wanted video of me running for a gait analysis, so I hung around the gym and kept running for a bit. I was supposed to do a 5k time trial but only did 2 miles due to some calf pain issues. I missed my mile repeats workout and my double brick because my gym was closed this weekend and I had to send part of my bike trainer back to CycleOps, so I was out my gym access and my bike. I got a couple of good swims in though, so that's good.

For me, I run more regularly when I have a specific goal that I'm working towards. I try to do at least one half marathon or marathon each summer so that I can build my running/training plan around that and feel like my running has a purpose. If you're just starting out, maybe pick a 5k in a couple months that sounds like fun and work towards that!

Hi all! I restarted Couch to 5k last week after a bad ankle injury last year and two MCs and fear of activity. I did three runs last week, and yesterday had a super intense game I do twice a year, where we walked 12 miles during the day. Even so, I made myself go out today and start week 2, so I am really happy with that, especially considering it is insanely hot here. I am happy to be back in the saddle, doing something positive.
I run outside, and usually to save time since I go near sunset in this heat, I just run near my house, along a street with long sidewalks and not a lot of intersecting streets.

How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...I am feeling great. I've made some great strides with pace and distance lately. My goal is run 4x a week and just increased one run to 4 miles (3.5 for the others) so I can't complain. The only tough thing is keeping my son entertained through the whole run. He's just at that age where he wants to explore and not be cooped up. And if anyone wants a rec for a great jogging stroller, I can't say enough positive things about the Bob Ironman. It's a dream to run with.

I'm getting bored with my routes and need to find somewhere new but there are a lot of pedestrian vs car accidents where I live and I need to find somewhere I feel safe especially with lo.
How were your runs this week? Lay it on us...Well, I actually got to run which was great! Because of our weather and snow I haven't ran outdoors since October. This weekend we were in TN, so I was able to get in 3 miles while we were there. Then, it was 55 here last night so I also got another run in, 4 miles. Both felt great! During the winter, I typically do 4 miles or so on the elliptical a few times a week, and I was getting so bored with the same routine. It's amazing how sore the first run of the year makes you though!We'll be on vacation next week so I am really looking forward to some nice runs on the beach.
GTKY: Where do you run? Treadmill, trails, neighborhood, greenway, etc. I run in our neighborhood. We have lots of sidewalks and it's a pretty big town, and I have a 5 mile route that I typically do. I'm hoping to get back to my normal 5 mile runs within the next few weeks! The sidewalks are very snow covered throughout the winter and are also so close to a main road that I don't feel comfortable at all running on them in the winter as I don't trust myself to not slip and fall into the road, so waiting for them to finally thaw feels like it took forever. I'm so glad it's finally getting warmer though!
I got a couple of runs outside last week which felt GLORIOUS. I was able to go so much farther than I have been able to on the treadmill

Treadmill if the weather is crud. Today's temp isn't bad but the wind is off the hook so I treadmilled it. Outside, I'll run my neighborhood and a bike path crosses my street so I'll do a portion of that.

Last week was super busy at work so I only got one 6.5km run in during the week. But I did a 15km race on Saturday and placed 3rd!! I maintained a very fast pace throughout the whole run and finished in 1:17. Woohoo!

For shorter runs, I like to run through my neighbourhood, longer runs on the bike trails that run through my city. I only run on the treadmill if it is too cold out or if there's a snowstorm and no more than 8km (that shit is booooring!)
