breastpump question

With DD I used an Ameda Purely Yours and had no issues with it, although I wasn't overly happy with it either.  Insurance covered it so that's what I got.  This time I can get a Medela PISA "starter set" or a new Ameda.  Anyone have a recommendation?  I kind of want to go with the Medela but Ameda is what I know.  I'm not a risk taker lol!

If it was my first I'd totally go witht he Ameda b/c it comes with alot of extras (bottles, cooler bag, carrying bag) but I have all of that from DD anyway.  I just want a good pump.

I used a Medela and had absolutley no issues. Like you, I'd be more comfortable sticking with what I'm familiar with.

I had the Ameda and was ehh about it- I'm not sure what my insurance will cover this time around but if there's a Medela I will be switching

Does your Ameda still work ok? If so, you could choose the Medela this time and have the Ameda as a back up in case you dont like the Medela. Just a thought.

It does work ok.  That's what I was thinking.  The Medela always seems more highly reviewed by users.  I'll probably give it a try this time.  The hospital grade Medela I used temporarily with DD was SO much better but of course, that's hospital grade.

Definitely go for the Medela. I rented the hospital grade one myself, but have heard great reviews from those who used the personal use ones. I have heard pretty terrible reviews about the ameda, that was the one my sister got and she couldn't even use hers because it didn't work at all for her. The Medela pumps aren't quite as simple as the ameda, but IMO that's why they work better. Plus, they aren't difficult to use at all, and there are a bazillion different accessories easily available so that you can personalize your pump to work better for you. I have also heard that their costomer service is great at helping you out if you have any questions or issues.

LOVED my PISA! I don't know what a "starter set" is, but Medela is a great brand, and I've used the Symphony for exclusive pumping for 2 months as well and was happier with my PISA, which I used for 9 months, pumping almost exclusively. I still had great suction the times I used it after having DD.

I got the backpack version, which came with 1 set of flanges (I needed to get a bigger size) and such, 4 bottles with screw-on caps, a cooler bag, and a molded ice-pack that fit snuggly around my bottles.

Absolutely loved my PISA. I would highly recommend it. I used it a lot and traveled with it a lot and it held up so well, never once had an issue. I also think it's super easy to get replacements parts or extras for it because you can get them at any baby store or Target. The convenience is nice, though I never used another brand so maybe it's just as convenient.
