What worked for us is just barely putting the nipple in his mouth and let him kind of lick it for awhile until he realizes that it's food. Then put the whole nipple in.
Also, maybe change the temp. Some babies like it warm. DD always liked it cold.

We just did this for the first time on sunday. We used dr browns and tried to follow paced bottle feeding but holding the bottle horizontally led to him gulping so much air so we had to tilt it
@holachica, we did the exact same thing, put a little bit of milk on DD's lips and tongue and she took it like a champ! Except DH used the fast flow nipple and she sucked it down like whoa.

Did anyone else feel irrationally sad watching their baby get a bottle? I understand the necessity of it but it made me so sad. And it was pumped milk. Crazy hormones

I don't like it at all so I leave the room. I am going back to work so I know I need to get her used to it but the bottle makes me sad.

Yes I left the room too! I was so sure I was going to have to leave the house but of course he took the bottle no problem. Im a SAHM so irrationally I want to never give him one. Rationally I know I need to

Haven't intro'd a bottle yet but this is just how I feel.
Honestly I have no guilt about it. That bottle H give her at night gives me the best gift. Sleep. It's much better for both of us and H likes being able to feed her. Now I actually started giving her the bottle yesterday and that was just weird for both of us I happily let H take over.

We've done some bottle feeding since we got home. We started with the avent. Then dr browns. She squeaks and gets air on both though. I was thinking off trying those new munchkin ones with a bigger nipple. I'm frustrated cause we just bought new dr browns. If we end up not using them they may be up for sale... Anyone use the munchkin ones?

I don't, but my friend with a four month old has been using the Munchkin Latch bottles since her DD was a newborn. She really likes them.
DS is 4 weeks today, I started pumping a couple days ago and would like him to take a bottle once a day. We also have upcoming events and I will be away from him for a few hours.
H is the one who has been trying and I've been either outside or on a different level of the house.
May I ask how much you gave your DS, in the bottle and if he was satisfied after? I ask because my DS is 3 weeks old and has had a bottle only once. I thought he may have a problem taking it so I only offered a small amount (2 oz) as to not waste any. He ended up taking the bottle just fine but was still hungry after. I nursed until he was satisfied but now I don't know how much to offer next time.
When my LO was 3 weeks old, he took 2.5oz of BM in tommee tippee bottles. This kid is sensitive to his milk volumes, if I'm off by a quarter of an oz, he's root like crazy.
I don't recommend those TT bottles though, LO sucks like a champ, he drained it fast like a boss, unfortunately, also farted (and still farts) like a boss.
