This is my 1st AF after being off of bcp if you don't count the withdrawal bleed last month. When I was on bcp, it lasted about 5 days. Today was day 3 and it's pretty much gone.
Has anyone ever experienced a shorter AF than what you're used to? And has it affected your typical O date, as in should I expect it sooner? I will keep a close eye on my CM to see, but wanted to see if anyone has experienced this.

My period before BC was 4-5 days, heavy, lots of cramps. My period now, few cramps, lighter and 2-3 days. Is that because of the BC or the fact that I was on it for like 12 years and my cycles changed during that time? Who knows. And since I wasn't tracking O before BC I have no idea if its sooner or not.

When I came off bc my cycle length was about 6 days shorter than pre bc and my periods ended about a day earlier. O isn't related to period length, your body can randomly decide how much time it wants to take to O and change it up just for funzies.
CM is helpful but not foolproof. I strongly suggest checking out Fertility Friend and starting to temp so that you'll be able to confirm O after the fact and see how your other symptoms ie CM correlate.

I have no idea if it impacts my O date at all, but my period is typically 2-3 days, with some spotting before and after. I believe 2-3 days of actual flow is perfectly normal.

On BC my period was 3-4 days. Now it is 2-3, but after a few months of BC those 2-3 days are SO MUCH HEAVIER than on BC. Now my period has no bearing on yours, but personal anecdote: my cycle went from 28 days to 25 days, and over a year has crept back up to 26-27 days, with O on day 10-14.
I thought BC made it so you didnt O, so in theory coming off BC should absolutely affect O date, as you now have one.

I temped with FF last cycle and O'd on CD 16, but my period lasted for 5 days during that cycle. Can't wait for my O to change it up for funzies. Thanks!

Thanks! And just to clarify, I was off bc end of December, and had a withdrawal bleed 5 days later. Wasn't sure if people referred to that as an actual 1st period off bc or not. Sorry for the confusion.

I know that implantation happens 7-10dpo so we usually recommend people wait to test at least until 10dpo.
But if someone's luteal phase is only 10 days would that suggest an earlier implantation time-frame and thus change our recommendation to testing earlier than 10dpo? Or is there no correlation between luteal phase length and implantation time-frame?
I started with a thermometer that goes to the tenths. It worked fine.
When it died, I got one that went to the hundreths. It worked fine.
When it died, I got one that went to the tenths. It was all I could find in the store.
That one has died and I'll again buy the first one I see.
So... in summary: both worked for me.
That said, my shifts are large (>0.5 degree). If your shifts are smaller, you'll benefit from a basal body thermometer. But, starting with one to the tenths and seeing if it works for you is certainly a solid plan.
Ditto. My shift is always between .4 and .8 degree. I'd take Joy's advice and just go ahead and use the digital one you have for now and if it's not working, then upgrade to the BBT.
BUT, if you do upgrade, really check the packaging. There's a few brands out there that have BBT on the label but only go out to a tenth of a degree, not a hundredth.
Yea I think I'm going to try the digital and see how that works first. There's no sense in rushing out to spend money if what I have can work for me. And thanks for the tip on the BBTs! I will keep my eyes open if I have to go that route.

I think at that point you would still recommend 10dpo for testing since that's their normal LP.
I don't think LP will have an impact on when implantation occurs. This would be why a short LP (consistently less than 10 days) can cause troubles.

If you do end up getting a BBT, I do not recommend the Target Up and Up brand. I had it for a while and it favored certain temperatures. I ended up with 5 days in a row of the same temp before. I could still detect ovulation no problem, I just found it really annoying to keep getting repetitive temps over and over again.
Reli-On brand from Walmart has been working great and was only $9.
My obgyn told me to take a folic acid supplement when I started TTC, so that's all I'm taking. Is it super important to take a more comprehensive PNV?
Nope, and I think it's a common misconception. If you read the labels, there are differing amounts of vitamins between regular multi and prenatals, because what you need are different. Taking a prenatal won't hurt you, but it's not the best for you if you aren't pregnant. You get more calcium and vit A and less iron in a regular. The folic acid supplement brings you up to the same level as most prenatals, and that's arguably the most important.

Nope. That is why a short luteal phase is potentially concerning when ttc. The zygote/blastocyst still moves at the same rate, so if the uterine lining is beginning to dissolve, it may make implantation less likely.

Rubber band your BBT to your phone. Assuming that's what you're using as your alarm.
I agree with this. Especially if you've got small animals in the house who like to make your life difficult. Two of us on this board have had our BBT's chewed up by dogs. I'm still angry.
I have one of those lovely doggies in my home. I see his nose trying to flick my thermometer off my night side table everyday. When I'm ready to sleep for the night, I take my hair tie out of my hair and immediately band my thermometer to my phone with it. And then I can also easily find my hair tie in the AM.
I'm not really a newbie, but I have a question. I charted on FF for 5 months before conceiving my daughter (2 of those were TTA). This time around I've been charting for 8 months. I feel like taking a break from charting and EOD sex and just winging it this cycle. Everyone is telling me that I just need to relax and I'll get a BFP (which I know is crazy). Have any of you taken a charting break? Why?

Yes. Last month I half ass charted because I was busy. This month my thermometer broke so I haven't started temping yet. I usually O late so I'm going to get one tomorrow and start but if I miss it then oh well. I try not to stress either way.
Relaxing can be different for everyone. Charting helps some people relax because they know what's going on and aren't worried about if they're late or not. Do what works best for you.

Ditto this. Folic acid (or folate) is what's important in early pregnancy because the neural tube develops so early on. Extra iron upset my stomach and my OB said it was fine to hold off until 2nd tri. I took gummies until then (which do not have iron supplement). It's good to take your vitamins but I wasn't on a PNV when I got pregnant, just a high-quality women's multivite.

Knowing my ovulation date and therefore knowing when to test is a whole hell of a lot more relaxing to me than scheduling sex, worrying about missing days and then testing blindly when I "think" my period should show up but doesn't.
Seriously - that sounds like hell.
I donmt know where and why people got the idea that understanding their body well was "not relaxing." We're encouraged to be advocates for ourselves and that knowledge is power, but in this instance, it's "ridiculous" to temp. It drives me bonkers. I understand my body and I'm sorry if people think that's not relaxing. They are wrong. It's fabulous to know what's happening. I'm free from scheduled sex and wondering. I'm free from buying forty seven pregnancy tests. I'm free from symptom-spotting. I get to just live and not obsess.

I agree with what you're saying. I like knowing when I ovulate and when to expect my period/test. I guess the stress comes in when I over analyze my chart. Somehow I've got to stop myself from doing that. I guess I was just considering a break from charting because it's disappointing to keep doing the same thing and get the same results (BFN).

Ah, don't analyze! Just input your temps and only visit FertilityFriend once per day. Put it out of your mind!
Remember, charting doesn't get you pregnant. It lets you know if you're having sex at the right times and testing at the right time. That's it. Once you confirm ovulation, let go for 10 days. You're free.

I know FF says the temp of a room can/will impact your BBT. Is that impact enough to make a shift unrecognizable?
We keep our house fairly cool in the winter and occasionally I'll use an electric blanket. I usually turn it off before falling asleep, but not always. I'm just curious if these environmental factors are enough to throw off a chart.

I woke up completely drenched in sweat the other day (sorry TMI) yet my temp was the same as the day before. I think any effect room temp has is minimal unless you are a mouth breathing oral temper.
ETA: remember you are looking for a pattern. Don't over analyze individual temps too much. Even if room temp is drastically different you should still be able to see a temp shift.

Agreed, 100%.
I love looking at my chart knowing what's happening, especially since I can get multiple surges in a cycle. I feel way more powerful! And less crazy. Especially with symptom spotting. If I didn't temp to confirm O, my 3-7DPO bloating would have driven me bonkers.

Every time I read a joy response, it immediately calms my crazy. Thanks for that
Another newbie question...Is there anything that you wish you would have done before TTC? We plan on TTC beginning in April. I have been ready for the last year, but my husband wanted some more time for us as just a couple which I totally respected. I have been lurking for a few months now just to learn as much as I can before we start trying, and am going to begin temping this month. Anything else I should be doing that in hindsight you wish you would have done earlier?
