Disappointed in meeting. I'm seeing a family dr currently and wanted to VBAC. She referred me to an OB she works with, it sounded like I needed a consult or a few so when the time came I knew her. Turns out I have to switch care completely.
The only way it seems around this is to schedule a c with my family dr and this OB and then go into labor instead just to keep seeing my family dr the rest of the way.
I'm pretty attached to her and don't want to switch for quite a few reasons. But I really don't want another C unless necessary.
I'm assuming she can't do VBAC (or trial of labor as the OB kept reminding me it's only a trial and if successful then a VBAC) for liability reasons? I have to ask her. I can't even process this properly.
If I were a first timer and needed an urgent or emergency c they would call in the right people so why does it have to be different as a 2nd timer trying labor again?

That sucks - sorry you're dealing with that. I know you said you'd rather stick with the dr you're with but if she's really not willing or able to accommodate you're preferences, are there any other options of drs you could look into?
I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say I'm sorry your meeting didn't go well I hope you're able to figure something out so you can try for your VBAC.
I'm sorry it didn't go as planned. Would you deliver at the same hospital either way? Do the doctors work for different practices?
I know for me if I want a VBAC I would have to tranfer care completely as the hospital my family doc delivers at bans VBACS to cover their ass.
Also, in order for a hospital to allow a VBAC they have to have surgery staff on site, where the staff can be on call as long they can be onsite within 30 mins should the need arise of the hospital doesn't allow VBACs.
They work for different practices but delivery would be same hosp. The one I work for. My family dr is "owned" by my hosp, the hosp "owns" no specialists whatsoever--including OBs. I have a lot of questions for my family doc now and I only have 6 weeks to choose the OB, she wants me by 28 weeks. Right when I'd have to go more frequently (iirc) which is inconvenient for me. Ugh.

There are plenty of OB's I could go to. Maybe even midwives. I just really like her and don't want to switch at all this late. Plus the family doc is my DD's doc and who Cecilia (new babe) will also see. I'm lazy like that. She's 1 mi from where we live and having one car (currently) it makes it super easy to walk/jog there in good weather (which we will have come April again). Pathetic reasons probably.

I'm guessing the hospital has it in your family docs contract that they can't do them then.
Funny that I work at the hospital I will deliver at too, though I'm going for RCS because I'm not a great VBAC candidate and the only VBAC docs/hospitals are out of network.
I'm a good candidate per the OB. I'd rather see my family doc and show up in labor and have whomever is on call show up then vs switch. It happened with DD I saw CNMWs the whole time and had to get transferred to the hosp from the freestanding birth center where I saw none of my midwives (too many births that full moon!!) and had an OB on call who didn't even meet me until we had to do the c. So what's the difference?
I just had to completely switch docs and delivery hospitals because they wouldn't allow any VBACs. It has to do with what their insurance will cover, so if the hospital doesn't feel like shelling out for the more expensive insurance, no VBACs on premises. Probably something similar for the Doc.

I can relate. I was going to a midwife office, and their head OB told my midwife they would not allow my VBAC. So-- I joined the ICAN group (I suggest you do, too), and they all pointed me in the direction of an OB who not only does them, but is also the best in my area and is known for VBAC's. I say join ICAN, see what options are out there, and switch. You can then go back to your old doc that you love after you give birth. GL!

I will look into it, I just want to avoid switching at all. If I do switch completely might as well stay with this one as she works with my family doc regularly... And if i do choose a RCS my family doc will be first assist with this OB as lead. Thanks for the info lgsdesigner!
Sorry you didn't get the news you wanted. Those are some tough choices to make, but I feel your reasons for not wanting to switch are totally valid. Having the same Dr as others in your family, as well as being in a super convenient location are both great! Your family dr is someone you will have in your life for a long time. You want them to be accessible and to know you as well as possible.
I hope a solution presents itself that works for you and allows you the VBAC you're hoping for. Fx for you.

Sorry this didn't go well. I can't imagine having to switch Drs in the middle of pregnancy. Hugs to you. I hope this situation gets resolved as easily as possible.
Oh that really sucks. Even though switching seems like a PITA, I'd probably do it if I was in your shoes. You have to advocate for yourself sometimes! GL with everything. I really hope you get your VBAC

I just met my new FP doc this week and I really like her. I will be taking LO to her since the office is less then 2 miles from our house. Walking down to the office not a pain, walking home...... It is quite the hill.
