NGKUR: Spring clothes shopping

Every season I clean out my closet and rotate my clothes.  Soon I will be packing away the winter stuff to make room for my spring and summer clothes.  I stopped shopping for new clothes each season once we bought our house because I have more important things to spend money on.  I  also seem to be experiencing a second puberty what with my boobs growing larger every few months as well as my hips and butt getting a little rounder, so that makes buying clothes annoying since I outgrow them in a few months.  I hardly ever shop for new clothes now and if I do I make sure they are a little roomier than normal.  Pinterest is my new BFF for finding inspiration on how to wear clothes I already have in a new way.

I'm curious to know what you guys do regarding shopping for new clothes.  Do you do it every season? Only when you need something?  Whenever the heck you want to?  And what about your S/O?  Getting my husband to buy new clothes is such a chore!  He refuses unless his current clothes are full of holes or no longer fits.

Every season I'll get myself one or two things. A new skirt, maybe a new top, etc. I'm not super stylish but I do have fun mixing old and new things to make new outfits. 

I do get myself new t-shirts every spring. I get the old navy v-necks and mix and match different colored camis under them. I'm a 38DD so camis and tanks are essential! I don't mind a little cleavage but without a cami, I'd be Down right XXX rated lol.

I get new clothes by the season but not a lot. Just a few pieces to spice up the selection. In the fall I get a few new sweaters, but the summer is my favorite and I enjoy collecting new maxi sundresses and sunglasses. I love ballet flats and will wear them year round, so I get those every few months. As for my DH, he loves fashion and we do well shopping together, which is weird and fun.

I am a random shopper. I wear most of my clothes year round, with the exception of long johns and heavy sweaters. I also get hand me downs from my sister which helps cut down on shopping.

I just kind of buy as I need. Target has been my main clothing store since I use coupons and buy during sales. I'll buy a shit ton of clothes for DD but I hate spending the money on myself. Even though my clothes last longer than hers!

I am extremely lucky in that the majority of my clothes from years past still fit. Since I know what I buy will last for a few years, I tend to go for classic things. I avoid trendy clothes like the plague. So I replace as necessary when things become damaged but I don't ever say "Hey! It's spring! Time to buy some new stuff."

I am in the same boat re: owning a house and having better things to spend $$ on. I only buy new clothes when I have to. Ex. My one pair of shoes has a hole in them - I will go buy new shoes this weekend. Prior to September none of my dress pants fit anymore (yay.....) so I hit up some sales at smart set and reitmans and got a few new pairs.

I usually do a big shopping trip for new work clothes 1-2 times per year (spring and fall), and then supplement whenever I feel the itch.

The bolded I do too. I like to dress in layers. So I'll wear my summery tops in the winter with a cardigan over it. I also will wear my bright spring/summer colors all year round.

For each season I hoard cloths from end of season sales. So last summer I did Dillard's sale and I have a lot of new pieces put away in a bin. Same thing for winter. But most of my work wardrobe is versatile and can go with all seasons.

I admire your restraint. If I have new clothes, then I must wear them. Immediately. Out of the store is preferable.

Each spring I will buy myself a couple new dresses because that's all I wear when the weather is nice. I'll buy random tops throughout the year but I haven't bought new pants in quite a while. I used to shop all the time but have calmed way down in the last couple years. H on the other hand has not bought any new clothes in years! He has a ton of t shirts and nice button up shirts and doesn't feel like he needs anything new.

I used to be a totally random shopper. Whenever I got the urge I'd wander to the mall and buy something if I felt like it. It wasn't that often, but I feel like I was wasting a lot of money on stuff I didn't need. So this spring I'm trying out a capsule wardrobe - I've mentioned this before on here but it just means cutting down to like 30-40 items total and then not shopping for three months. I got rid of 5 garbage bags of clothes/shoes/bags etc! It felt great (though I was a bit disgusted with myself) and am now working on figuring out my capsule.

On that note, anyone know where I can get an awesome white button down shirt? I've bought cheap ones in the past and they are always a pain to iron, dont fit right, yellow fast etc.

I buy as needed and wear most of the same stuff year round, mixing and matching. I also buy cheap clothes so I don't feel bad about tossing them after a few months. I only spend good money on pants and shoes. Pants and shoes can last forever!

I just did a hugggee clean out before we moved. I only do that every few years though. Like joy, I'm fortunate that I haven't grown in a while, so I go with the classic pieces. I will buy a few new things for when we travel, or if I see something I'm in love with.

I know! It was pretty tough to do the initial purge. But I started thinking about it like, do I feel good when I wear this? If I only have 6 tops (for example) would I want to be wearing this one?  For those I was on the fence about I put it in a 'trial separation' bin which Ive hidden in the basement. Honestly it's been like 3 weeks and I don't miss any of it. I'm hoping by the end of the spring I'll forget about all of it and dump it in a bag to donate.

I also put a bunch of stuff to sell on consignment which made me feel better about getting rid of expensive stuff or things with tags on it.

I buy new clothes all the time. It's a problem. I can't remember the last time I bought an article of clothing because I actually needed it. It's not good.

This thread is inspiring me to clean out my closet! I wear most of my clothes year round so the seasons don't affect my shopping too much. I'm not a big fan of shopping so I usually just go once every few months and I usually have a couple drinks before I go to make it more fun. I'm indecisive and having a slight buzz helps me to just make a decision and go with it rather than standing in the store debating for 30 minutes about whether or not to buy a certain shirt.

Now I do Stitch Fix which is great for me so I don't have to go anywhere or make too many decisions. My husband just starting doing Five Four which is nice, but you have to keep everything they send, unlike Stitch Fix, so verdict is still out on that one.

I love shopping and always get a strong urge to shop every Spring. I can never afford to go on a big spree though because of mortgage/bills/student loans etc.
I'm a bargain shopper and usually end up buying a few cheap sundresses and maxi dresses at the start of the summer. I have a closet full of dresses which I live in from May to September. The rest of the year I live in yoga pants (and sometimes jeans).

I am a random shopper but I have started to trend towards buying more quality things less often. I used to buy almost everything from Target and Old Navy, and now I just buy less, with an occasional nice item (I'm obsessed with Madewell but I've only bought a pair of jeans so far.) I just bought a bathing suit from Garnet Hill which will be the only bathing suit I wear this season.

I just read Marie Kondo's book "The Magical Art of Tidying Up" and used her KonMari method to purge my closet to maybe half its previous size. She basically advocates holding an item and asking "does this bring me joy?" etc. I think I'm also FINALLY getting better at knowing what looks better on my body, which has drastically decreased the "I love this item but I'm not sure if it looks great on me" purchases that seem to live in my closet forever.

I'm really fascinated by the idea of a capsule wardrobe mill23! Have you seen the Wardrobe Architect blog series on Coletterie? It's a sewing blog but I think the posts are fabulously on point, especially when it comes to talking about having a "core style" of colors and shapes that complement you.

I shop way more than I should. But I do buy during sales. Here in so cal no need to swap out my clothes too much because the weather is good most of the time. Most of my closet is work clothes. I love NY and Co. They have good sales and they have coupons too! I do buy a lot of target stuff too because I practically live at Target. I can buy everything I need at one store...that's awesome!

OoO. Bookmarking Unfancy and Into Mind! And yes, pinning is much of the satisfaction of purchasing... without the guilt or you know, not being able to afford food.
