While mixed race or mixed faith relationships are normal in my city, the type of mix that MH and constitute is not. We get stares all the time. At least it's only stares - outside of the city MH hears comments on his beard and turban. He's been called a terrorist, and a variety of similar epithets.

leenziepops, I really don't think she meant it in that way...I hope. MH really doesn't have a filter on his mouth and he didn't say anything...so that is a good thing. I should have told her to mind how she phrases things.
@nedralynn, I'm so sorry your grandparents actually disowned you. That's really sad, and what a huge loss for them to not be involved with their own grandkids and great grandkids.
Yes, that and "where was he born". It makes me laugh on the inside because he was born in the town we live in and lived in a nearby city before we adopted him.
My DH is half Korean and adopted. When people find out he is is adopted they almost always want to know if he was born in Korea. Nope. Ohio! :-)

My DH and I don't look like an interracial couple because I'm so light. We don't get weird looks really. What we do get is a lot of comments that our baby is going to have curly hair, since we both do. We got this before I was pregnant but now even more so!

DH is black/white mixed race, and I'm white. In Rome itself, nobody really bothers us because there is a fair bit of interracial couples around, and its fine in Venice as well, but if we go outside a big city, we do get stared at a bit.
