So I absolutely cannot bed share. I've done it as a last resort when R is sick, but here is what we did:
I started transitioning out of the co-sleeper with naps and keeping R swaddled. He was about 5 months. I would nurse him, then put him in the crib, and stay in the room until he fell asleep. After about a week, I would just stay for a few minutes then leave. After a couple of days, I just put him in, and left. He would fuss for a few minutes and go to sleep. This is still how naps go. We always do a few minutes of wind-down with rocking and a story, etc before a nap.
After about a week of sleeping in his crib for naps, we started with night time. I did the same thing as for naps. No matter how many times he woke up, I would nurse/rock/whatever to calm him and put him back in his crib. We just stuck with it. I just cannot do CIO or anything like that. I do let him fuss for a few minutes when we first put him down, but if it escalates to full-scale crying we go soothe and put back.
R is still waking up 3-4 times at night, but at this point he eats and goes right back to sleep most of the time. It's not perfect, but I sleep better in between wake-ups.
We are now using the zipadeezip for sleeping. He can move around it in, but its safe to roll over, etc. since he's sleeping on his belly now.
That's all I got. Coffee and sleepy hugs to you.
