Anyone with an ovarian cyst while pregnant?

I just got back from my 8 week u/s and the tech said that my left ovary was HUGE!  Yikes!  I am totally freaked out and of course I had to Google it, which was not good.  It says that if it gets too big, you have to have surgery and that it could burst or twist my ovary and tube...ouch!

Has anyone else ever had a large ovarian cyst during pregnancy?

The good news is that baby looks good and is measuring right on target.

I had one burst on me last summer, but not while pregnant. While the pain was comparable to labor (the most god awful pain ever) it cleared up on its own without surgery.

I had one during the beginning of this pregnancy ? Or maybe last? I don't remember. They just keep an eye on it.
I have had one burst before (not while pregnant) and it was the most horrific pain I've ever been in and I lost the ovary.

Having the surgery is really an easy thing though. And chances are at this stage yours will just shrink and won't be an issue.
The good news is you know it's there so they will keep an eye on everything.

I have had three burst while not pregnant and yes, the pain is out of control. Thankfully, I have not lost an ovary yet, but this one is alarming. I just pray I don't have to have surgery while pregnant.

I had one burst very shortly after I got my bfp. Before they could even see anything on the u/s. It just showed free fluid in my abdomen. I've only had csections so dont know labor pains but was very painful of course. I didnt have to have surgery and everything turned out fine.

I did go through IF tx and was on clomid before it happened. They did monitoring and didnt say anything about a huge cyst beging present when they did my follie check. I also have pcos so maybe they just assumed I always had big cysts?

Anyways. I hope everything is fine for you and glad baby is ok!

I have not personally had one but my sister got a cyst with all 3 of her pregnancies. She had 1 rupture with her middle child but it didn't harm the pregnancy or anything. They did keep her overnight in the hospital to monitor her bc she went to the ER bc of the pain. Hopefully yours will just go down with the hormone changes!

I had one while pregnant - I could feel it, kind of felt like ovulation pain. They are pretty common in first trimester and usually go away on their own by 12-13 weeks

I had one with one of my pregnancies. It ruptured around 6 weeks. Holy pain. It all reabsorbed and I didn't need surgery. I hope yours goes down on its own!

I am a bit confused. Is your left ovary huge? Of do you have a huge cyst on your left ovary? Those are two different things. If you left ovary is huge that is an issue, it could mean ovarian cancer. If you have a huge cyst on your left ovary that is different. I have 2 medium size cysts on my left ovary right now. They found them in Dec and are monitoring them. They cause me a bit of twinging pain but nothing major. At my 12 week u/s they had shrunk a bit. If it is really big they usually monitor it. The last thing you want is for it to rupture which will cause a lot of pain. If the cyst does not reabsorb then they will surgically remove it. What does your OB say? Mine is not to concerned about the 2 medium sized cysts in Dec.

I just got an update from my OB an it is a 7 cm cyst on my left ovary.  She said that 90% of them resolve on their own.  I have had two others burst in the past year and the pain is just as bad as labor!  Neither of the other two were this large.  She said she will just monitor it for now and talk next steps if it doesn't resolve or starts to be very painful.  


Pregnancy is hard enough, but having cysts just sucks!  I feel for anyone else who also suffers from them.  I have been doing a lot of research and I love natural cures, so I hear iodine works wonders.  I will have to ask my OB if it is safe during pregnancy.

That is a big cyst! I hope it resolved and you don't have to deal with the pain. I agree that cysts suck in general. I am glad the OB seems to think it will resolve. I know mine went down from 6 to 12 weeks, so I hope yours do to.
