So we are researching the different types of swim lesson available around my area and wanted some opinions. Living in the south most of our families have pools and we go the lake house through out the year is it is very important for our daughter to be comfortable in water.
There is a new technique called IRS, Infant Swimming Resource, trains babies — in small, 10-minute spurts — how to survive in water by trusting their own buoyancy. I first learned about it when on maternity leave watching this video on the today show . Negative they are taught 5 days a week for 10 mins for 4-6 weeks (quite a time commitment and this class is more expensive)
Then are the regular ones that meet once a week that use "Fun songs and aquatic activities increase confidence while the babies learn to submerge comfortably with eight to ten second breath control".... there are baby programs that suffer from two extremes. Some baby swim lessons just play around in the water and don’t actually teach babies to swim. Other swim lessons teach babies to swim with traumatic teaching techniques." Videos 1 and Video 2 from the swim school we are interested in
I have friends that have done both...Do you thing the IRS technique is traumatic (like the idea that she could learn to float and actually swim)
I didn't know this would be such a stressful...and I haven't even started shopping for a bathing suit for myself yet ;o)
