I would do it. But I also hate my job and would absolutely being willing to take a giant pay cut in order to work part-time. And part-time won't necessarily be forever - you get some experience and / or finish your BA, and you can move to a full-time position if you want to. The benefits in non-profit can also be worth a lot, so when you add that all up with your mental health, it seems like it could be a win. Plus, think how much easier the schedule will be with 2 kids at home.

If you and YH can make it work financially and you're excited about the opportunity, I think you should go for it.

I'd go for it. The sacrifices would be worth it. Who knows-- you might get a full time position sooner rather than later.
Since it's part time maybe you could cut down on child care, switch providers, or try a pre-school rather than daycare program to save costs?

As someone who spent a few years in absolutely miserable job environments and is now in one that I really enjoy, I *fully endorse* quitting a miserable job for a better opportunity. I agree that if you can make it work financially, even if you have to tighten the belt, I'd do it. My mental health and stress levels improved so. fucking. much.

I think you need to sit down with your husband and make a real plan of how you would do it including future baby.

Happiness > Money that's for sure and if it's a responsible decision, then go for it!

I would definitely do it. Job happiness is so important. I found it especially hard to go back to a job (even one I don't hate) after dd was born. I think going back to a job you feel good about - vs. one you are hating would be so much easier on you emotionally. The financial part might be tough for a while, but you'll be getting your foot in the door and heading in a career direction you feel good about. The money will eventually follow (fx)

I would go. If you get yourself into the non-profit area you have chances at other jobs. I worked for a non profit and when I was ready to move on I had many job offers.

I would make a plan with hubs and do it. If you have a financial plan in place then the shrinking cash flow won't be so terrifying. I have been on the other side of this. Business I loved that I was barely scraping by with, like really nail biting. And the stress was just as great as when I was in jobs I hated but made a bunch of money. So I think the plan part of crucial. Sounds like a great opportunity though!

I would do it as well. Quality of life = the MOST important. Things may be tough at first but the payoff would be great in the end. More time with your family, for yourself and to finish school. And who knows what kind of opportunities could open up at the non-profit even before you finish your BA?!

Go for it. If you can make it work financially, I say being happier and having a better quality of life is so much more important than a pay check. Plus it sounds like this job could open up doors for you down the road to let you do what you are really interested in. Change is always scary but it often time pays off when you finally decide to do it.

It sounds like a great opportunity. If you won't be hurting too much I say try and go for it. Have a serious discussion about what will happen once the baby comes though. Your whole view might change again who knows.

If you can afford it, I would do it. Frivolous purchases are nice, but a great job is better.

Do it! Don't stay at a job that makes you that unhappy. Or that makes you unhappy, period, really - life's too short. Grab this opportunity. You don't know when you might get another like it, and if you pass it up, you'll always wonder what could have been. I definitely say go for it.

So no one here is advising you to stay anyway, but just in case you need more help deciding... I would guess that you are close to the top limit of what you can make as a FOH manager at an owner run restaurant, sure you make good money now but it likely won't go up much and to make significantly more, you will need to take another job, one where you will be the new guy and will have to work all the crap shifts.

Also, you have lots of restaurant experience, so why not get a waitressing/bar tending job to make ends meet while you get yourself going in the part time non profit job?

Finally, set a time limit, 1 year maybe? For how long. You can/will do part time and then start looking for jobs that utilize your experience. I don't know that world, but even 6 months might be enough to get you a full time offer at another place that you can either take or leverage into a FT job with United Way.
